ATTACK ON TITAN Exclusive Interview: Clifford Chapin On How The Show And His Character Have Shaped His Career

Attack on Titan is among the most well-known and popular anime shows of the last decade, with the final season kicking off last week. Check out our most recent exclusive interview for the series!

Finding a fan of anime and manga that hasn't heard of Attack on Titan may be difficult, as the horror franchise has continued to grow over the past decade. The premise is so out of the box that even those uninterested in the show are aware of its popularity.

The fourth and final season began streaming on FunimationNOW and Crunchyroll last week, beginning the journey to bring the story to a close. Those who have been following the adventures of Eren, Armin, Mikasa, and the others will finally find the resolution they've been waiting for.

Even the voice actors who play the characters are unaware of what will happen, or at least that's the case for Clifford Chapin (My Hero Academia), who portrays Connie in the show. He shared his hopes for Connie with us in our most recent exclusive chat, but he admitted that regardless of his character's fate, he will always be grateful for the show and how it launched his career.

"I've learned so much over the course of production on Attack on Titan. And I was so new at the time, Attack on Titan is what I consider to be my first big show. And it really was, and still is my first big show because it was so unlike the other roles I had played before in the shows I had played in before and that it has continued now seven years later, he's the longest standing character I have had at least within the chronology. I've been in other shows that have more episodes, but at least for as long as being a part of my life, Attack on Titan and Connie have been there, and it's been a really big part of everything that I feel like followed after it.

I've learned so much working on that show. The show carried that knowledge for other performances and showed that I've worked on after. And it's recognizable; it was one of those things that people knew it. So even when I was a new voice actor and fans of voiceover and anime and such were finding me, they're like, "Oh, he's in Attack on Titan." So it helped bridge me to other people and interact with a lot of people that I would have never interacted with otherwise. I don't know what will happen with Connie by the end of it - hopefully, he lives, fingers crossed. He's made it this long, but I have no idea, but if nothing else, I will be grateful to have been a part of it, and I look forward to seeing whatever could come of it in the future."

Hear our full chat with Connie Springer voice actor Clifford Chapin (My Hero Academia, Dragon Ball Super) below. Be sure to check out the trailer and synopsis for the final season and share your thoughts in the usual spot!
