Dragon Ball Super may have concluded its run, but Akira Toriyama still has plenty of Dragon Ball stories left to tell, the first of which will be out this December in Japan.

Following a whirlwind day of Broly-related rumors, Toei Animation officially confirmed that the upcoming movie will indeed resurrect the Legendary Super Saiyan and will thrust him in an all-new adventure that will further explore the origins of the Saiyan race and pit him up against both Goku and Vegeta.

In an open letter, Toriyama teases, "Naturally you’ll get to see fierce combat, but also, the paths of destiny that lead to an encounter between Goku, Vegeta, and Broly. It also involves the Frieza Force and the history of the Saiyans, which end up having a major connection to everything. The story content turns out to be very large-scale and dramatic."

While there's no word on the U.S. release just yet, Dragon Ball Super: Broly will hit Japanese theaters on December 14th. A teaser trailer was released back in March and it was recently confirmed that the full-length theatrcial trailer will debut at San Diego Comic-Con next weekend.

@AngryCipher - Shouldn’t we all be stoked that more Dragonball is going to in theaters. I have been at every launch and it’s an experience. A whole room laughing at the same jokes and cheer for the same things. It’s a great experience to be around so many other people love this stuff. And sure it’s Broly, but reaching into the past again could be fun. Barrdock? Who knows. Just be excited. It’s gonna happen regardless.

@AngryCipher - I definitely recommend starting from the beginning if you haven't seen the franchise/series at all. Start with Dragonball then move on to Kai, or DBZ. DBZ and Kai are basically one, and the same. It's just that DBZ is the original dub with some out of date things, and filler in it. Kai is a remastered version of DBZ, they just streamline things by skipping episodes from the original DBZ show so it's follows the manga more. Also some of the cast have been recast, and continue onto Super. I'd hold off on watching Super for now because that show is still being dubbed with us finally getting around to the final arc.

Just scroll a bit up on that page, and you'll see where the dub is currently. I would forget GT because it seems to be in its own continuity. The movies are fun to see too once you're all caught up with DB/Z.

Uh cool. I’m sure whenever I get around to watching any Dragonball I’ll be happy that this had happened.

My hardcore DBZ friends are real depressed about this one. Everyone hates Broly. His movies aren't that good but they're nostalgic for me, I used to watch them a lot as a kid. I'm excited, I think they know the fans' concerns and are gonna try to retcon Broly from a Super angle. Let's see.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - that's a bit confusing when out of most of the films the brolly film was one of the most well received by fans ....maybe some liked the android one where goku gets punched in the buts

@knocturnalzen10 - I liked his movie but watched it a couple of months ago and it doesn't hold up as well. The animation's great and it works for the most part, but Goku, Vegeta and Trunks get their asses beat for like 80% of the movie and then Goku takes him out in one move. They should've paced it better the ending is way too abrupt.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - Ya. Brolly is an awesome character from a design and power stand point. But not from a character or story stand point.
He's a basically a mindless super ultra powerful monster who just screams and fights and his motivation is, Goku annoyed him as a baby by crying non-stop.

@knocturnalzen10 - Both Cooler movies were pretty cool because it had the angle of Goku's fights have consequences angle. That his beating Freeza brought bigger trouble to him and earth.

I personally like Bojack simply because it continues the idea of Gohan taking over for his father as a badass protector. Something that the Buu Saga abandoned.

just as long as vegeta doesn't have to job anymore .... after super they have a nice trend going with him leveling up with out following goku's blueprint

@knocturnalzen10 - I know. He is stepping up on his own. And remember, Vegeta agreed to be a God of Destruction. They haven’t played that out yet for him. He could really stand out. Instead of him just cowering in fear the first time they met.

I stopped watching the Dragon Ball series after Z ended. I just don't believe the stakes are real anymore. Every story arc introduces a chaotic villain who destroys life and civilizations only for the Z fighters to undo everything the villain did. Heroes who die come back and civilians as well.

I wish the show would explore the concept of the story arcs have severe consequences on humanity. Just my opinion.

@SonOfAGif - Super is worth checking out. It's all online by now. Real stakes and a really interesting story with new characters. Much more inline with the quality of Z than GT.

shadowspider9 - 7/10/2018, 7:14 AM
@SpideyPuffsMJ - Not really. I haven't watched Z but my friend kept me updated and it did not sound good.
The first two arch's are just retelling the movies. Which is kind of lazy.
The Future Trunks arch is arguably the best but pulls a really stupid deus ex out of it's ass at the end with the whole 'sword of hope' bullshit
And the tournament arch pulls a 'fooled you' it was all a test at the end. Along with it teasing ultra instinct then going nope. You don't get it yet.

Not to mention ultra instinct, while cool to look at, can't last as an all powerful form. It's so OP that it either has to be the end of the series or be severely nurfed after being mastered.
