BOX OFFICE: ANT-MAN & THE WASP Passes $600M Globally As The MCU Closes In On A $4 Billion Year BOX OFFICE: ANT-MAN & THE WASP Passes $600M Globally As The MCU Closes In On A $4 Billion Year

Ant-Man and The Wasp has become the 15th Marvel Studios movie to cross $600 million worldwide, which means The MCU is taking aim at a $4 billion year after the success of Black Panther and Infinity War...

Though some seem determined to push the narrative that Ant-Man and The Wasp flopped, the Marvel sequel has now officially crossed the $600 million mark worldwide having grossed $214.1 million in North America and $386.7 million internationally, including $112 million in China.

Good news for Peyton Reed and his diminutive heroes but also good news for The MCU, because this means that Marvel Studios will finish the year with a very impressive $4 billion haul after the massive success of both Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War.

Tell us, what did you think of Ant-Man and The Wasp? Would you be interested in seeing a third movie? Drop us a comment in the usual place.

Bring on another Ant-man movie, and don’t forget the Wasp, and let’s make it the biggest little adventure yet.

@TheUnworthyThor - They've got a problem with the naming convention now, though. Ant-Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and then... what?

Ant-Man 3? Unacceptably demotes the Wasp.
Ant-Man and the Wasp 2? Seems odd, especially for a trilogy-capper.
Ant-Man, the Wasp, and Stature? I like the continually-adding-people gimmick, but we're getting crowded.

From a naming perspective alone, I sort of like the symmetry of Ant-Man vs. the Wasp, but honestly that's not a movie that we really need to see. And just adding a subtitle to Ant-Man and the Wasp feels clunky.

It's a real mess, to be honest. On par with Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and Iron Man Three. They've not gone full First Blood, but it could go that way.

Ant-Man and the Wasp Return? Generic.

Ant-Man and the Wasp Forever? ...

...

...okay... that's not bad.

@Spock0Clock - Get Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer to suit up and they can go with "Ant-Men and the Wasps" ;)

@Spock0Clock - I suppose that they could always do “The Wasp” as the third movie, have Paul Rudd co-star but not put on a costume, and achieve symmetry.

@Spock0Clock - I suppose they can simply go with Giant-Man and the Wasp as well.

@Chewtoy - ...I guess... But now it's feeling like a spin-off, rather than a direct sequel.

It's a little wordy, but what about "Ant-Man, the Wasp, and the West Coast Avengers"? Put together some slightly more-B-listy members, keeping the more light-hearted tone of the Ant-Man franchise, while also doing a big team-up.

@Spock0Clock - Ant-man and the Wasp Again, Ant-man and the Wasp Sting Again, Ant-man and the Wasp Ride Again, Ant-man and the Wasp, Ant-man and the Wasp and Sting (the musician or the wrestler), Ant-man and the Wasp Save the World, I’m sure they’ll come up with something. Although Giant-man and the Wasp seems the most natural.

I wondered if anyone was going to mention this when I saw it passed $600m the other day. I suspect the MCU will pass the $4b mark for the year after this weekend. That’s damn impressive!

It’s going to be hard to beat next year, but I wouldn’t bet against Marvel either.

@Chewtoy - anyone know how much the Imax marathon added to the MCU total? Probably a solid boost, even if not in the multi millions

@Chewtoy - I suspect Avengers 4 will do similar numbers to Infinity War, and I fully expect Captain Marvel to eclipse Ant-Man and the Wasp, but the question is to what extent? It would have to be a billion dollar hit for Marvel to come close to 4 billion a second year in a row, and that is also assuming Spider-man is a 800 mil+ hit as well.

If word of mouth is good for each of these movies then it’s possible, but I don’t think Captain Marvel or Spider-man is going to have the same kind of impact at the box office as Black Panther

Chewtoy - 9/7/2018, 10:14 AM
@PewPewPew - I expect Spider-man may have a bounce in him... Homecoming did $880m worldwide coming off of a generally disliked prior entry. This one will be continuing a successful reboot, and immediately following Avengers 4.

It’s a tall order to hit $4b again, but just when I think Marvel has reached a ceiling...
