Aquaman has already had an historic box office run in China, and while it has yet to open in North America, there's no reason to assume that it won't enjoy the same sort of success on its home shores.

One would assume Warner Bros. is fairly confident that The King of Atlantis' first solo adventure is going to deliver and has at least discussed the possibility of a sequel with James Wan, but, if that is the case, the director has yet to commit to anything.

When Variety asked Wan how many Aquaman movies he'd signed up for, he revealed that it was just the one. "We'll see... let's not talk about a sequel before this one's even come out!"

Of course, if the movie performs as well as expected then Wan probably will end up back on board for a sequel, as he seemed to have a blast making the first one and has a great rapport with the cast.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be…a king.

Aquaman swims into theaters on December 21.

@direlogue - Have you not heard his voice? He sings like an angel... signing on is a new Hollywood technique for getting directors to commit to movies.

This happens way too much around here. Everyone makes mistakes, but it’s borderline embarrassing as a reader/ fan of the site. I could only imagine if I was a contributor. I’m not totally positive on how the site works, but it’s probably a side effect of everyone rushing to get their article out before a similar one is posted.

However I came to this article to ask, why is this news? Marvel does this all the time, but when DC hasn’t already signed one of their first time directors to a sequel before the US release of the first film it’s spun like this. Ryan Coogler wasn’t signed on for BP2 until months after the release, Peyton Reed too.

I get that the MCU is crushing DC atm, but articles like this continuously spinning something marvel does and no one sees as an issue, as a big deal for DC are clearly biased.

@Battabing - No he is not doing Conjuring 3, he is producing it like all his other horror movies, but Michael Chaves will be directing the third Conjuring movie. This guy is also directing the upcoming horror film The Curse of La Llorona

I feel like this is not actually uncommon, especially for Blockbuster movies.
