Amber Heard may have become something of a divisive figure online following her very public legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp, but Warner Bros. will be bringing her back for Aquaman 2.

Depp, on the other hand, will no longer be part of the Fantastic Beasts franchise, but that was inevitable after he lost his libel battle with The Sun newspaper. Regardless, Heard has now taken to Instagram to make it clear that she's training to step back into Mera's tight-fitting costume and kick some ass as the fan-favourite Atlantean.

There's no word on what we'll see from Mera in the DC Comics sequel, but it's likely the movie will continue to expand on her relationship with Arthur Curry.

Heard's return isn't a surprise in many ways as she was recently among those who took part in the reshoots for Zack Snyder's Justice League. Her role in the Snyder Cut was limited and teased Mera's quest for revenge after Aquaman was killed by Darkseid's Omega Beams when he invaded Earth. Whether that story will continue remains to be seen, but is somewhat unlikely.

Mera is a character with a lot of potential on screen, so having her back for Aquaman 2 is no bad thing (even if a small number of fans are unhappy with Heard's return).
