Well, this is interesting. We thought Avengers: Annihilation was all-but confirmed, but it turns out Mark Ruffalo gave the film's title as "The Last Avenger" while appearing on the Jimmy Fallon Show...

The other night, Avengers 4 star Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/Hulk) appeared on the Jimmy Fallon Show and rather brilliantly trolled Marvel fans by revealing the name of the sequel only to have it bleeped out. At the time, reports indicated that he confirmed the title as "Avengers: Annihilation," but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Trailer Track's Anton Volkov was able to remove the bleep via some technical wizardry, and Ruffalo can clearly be heard to say, "The Last Avenger."


Despite this, several sources have indicated to us that the title is Annihilation and Marvel appears to have orchestrated this to throw people off the scent after the recent leak.

Either way, we're not going to know for sure until the studio and The Russo Brothers decide they're good and ready to make an official announcement.

I like Annihilation. I don’t want “The Last Avenger” to make sense because if there’s just one left standing...that’s daunting. I don’t like that.

@JonC - in all honesty, i don't think the Russos would give the title to anyone on the cast knowing how secret they want it to be.
Also, i don't think Rufalo knew "everyone was going to die" when he said it on the first movie... as the death scenes were all CGI and the Russos likely kept that secret.
when people died and they needed to record their actions they likely just said "now react to something horrible happening".
Rufalo just likes to tease and get PR... its his thing.

@TheCantilope - dude if you saw infinity you clearly know to whelm the soul stone somebody they love has to die. Marvel could they may not. They could have Tony and cap be the last 2 to fix what thanos has done. And either cap or Tony sacrifices themselves to be the last avenger to revert every soul. It’s not rocket science.

I like The Last Avenger. ANNIHILATION sounds too cliche and cheesy. Slap that on any franchise and it's just garbage.

@ArthurFleck - SO agree with you, dude. The Last Avenger is so much more intriguing. All these idiots saying you can’t call it the last avenger because they’ll only be one person standing just don’t get it. There might only be cap standing at one point (which would be [frick]ing amazing) and they snap everyone back into existence. Or something.

The Last Avenger implies that the Avengers will be no more after this. Not in that they all perish save for one (who knows) but maybe one of the original six dies and the toll of it has the rest of the OG team retire.

I could see Cap giving his life and being dubbed the one true LAST AVENGER (of that original team).

@BlackBeltJones - i could also see them retiring the name and having the new heroes of strange and spiderman make their own superhero group. Dont know any others besides avengers and defenders, but i think thatd be a cool way to move on after all of this.

@BlackBeltJones - it would play into Kevin Feige saying a couple years ago after A4 there wouldn’t be phases in the same way anymore so maybe the avengers series is done

I like The Last Avenger WAY more than Annihilation, that's for sure. I think it actually fits as a callback to The First Avenger

But I don't think that's it either. I think Mark Ruffalo just called it the last avenger within the show and they bleep it out to give the illusion of him spoiling the title.
