It was reported last month that Disney has screened the first footage from Avengers: Age of Ultron at the CineEurope convention, but sadly none of the lucky viewers had described, or even hinted at, what they saw. Well, it appears Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige brought that footage to the United Kingdom where he was holding a preview and Q&A for Guardians of the Galaxy. Thanks to both Geek Syndicate and Film3Sixty, we have some vague details of that Age of Ultron sneak peek.
The footage showed a foretaste of the action-packed sequel, including a sneak-peak at Iron Man’s Hulkbuster battling The Hulk, and our first look at Avengers Tower, which houses the heroes, including labs for Stark and Dr. Banner. Director Joss Whedon described Avengers Tower as his – and the cast’s – favourite set yet. The short clip also showed off the globetrotting locations being used, including South Korea, Italy and our very own United Kingdom. About two minutes of footage were shown. The Avengers Tower's interior looks Amazing and is very S.H.I.E.L.D. like but with a Tony Stark spin. Shot of Captain America on a Motorbike. Quinjets on display at Avengers Tower. Saw Quicksilver in action running (but not a superspeed).Saw some animatronics of Hulk vs a Hulkbuster
UPDATE: Now thanks to Radio Times, we have more detailed description of the Avengers: Age of Ultron footage, which Kevin Feige said will "probably" never be shown again. "Also sighted were new brother sister duo Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Scarlet has mysterious reality warping powers (in the footage this mostly involved making some blocks float around) while Quicksilver can run really, really fast (although without the special effects, it was more of a light jog). Scarlet Witch was shown fighting alongside Hawkeye on a ruined Italian street, but earlier in the reel both she and her brother were locked in fancy Perspex prison cells. Designed by Stark out of the ruins of his New York penthouse, The Avengers Tower has floor to ceiling windows, twin laboratories for Stark and Bruce Banner, and parking for supersonic jets. It’s reminiscent of the SHIELD helicarrier in terms of construction, with lots of shiny metal pillars."
UPDATE 2: The Flickering Myth has now provided their quick rundown of what was shown: "Tony Stark holding Loki’s stick from The Avengers. A scene in Africa with Captain America and Black Widow on a motorway. Pre-visuals of Hulk vs. Hulk Buster Iron Man (Joss Whedon said this was the first thing he wanted to have in the movie). Joss talking about the Avengers Tower set being “the most beautiful he’s ever worked on."
Expect some of what is described above and so much more to be shown at San Diego Comic-Con next week during Marvel Studios' big Hall H panel, which takes place next Saturday. If promotion leading up to the convention is anything like Marvel/Disney's previous efforts, expect some official Avengers: Age of Ultron conceptual artwork or maybe a first teaser poster. What do you think?
Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Cobie Smulders Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, with Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, and James Spader. The film is set for release on May 1, 2015.
