AVENGERS: ENDGAME VFX Producer Reveals Why The Team Suits And Captain Marvel's Costume Were CGI

Why did Marvel Studios bring the costumes worn by Earth's Mightiest Heroes as they travelled through time and Captain Marvel's suit to life with VFX? Surprisingly, there's actually a good reason for that!

There are a lot of visual effects in Avengers: Endgame but some fans have questioned what the need was for the Team Suits and Captain Marvel's costume to be brought to life with visual effects.

Well, in the video below, Visual Effects Producer Jen Underdahl has explained that it all boils down to the fact that they were running out of time and making them practically simply wasn't feasible.
"The time suits are a combination of Ant-Man, Tony Stark, and Guardians tech. That took quite a while for us to land on. By the time we got a final version, we were already in Principal Photography. We knew we were going to build them anyway, since they had to "nano" on and off with Tony's tech, and it ended up being that the costume department didn't have time to develop, fit, and fabricate all the costumes for those hero characters, so we ended up doing them digitally."

As we mentioned in our interview with Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding, Brie Larson wore her regular Captain Marvel costume on set before it was changed during post-production to that version which was clearly based on what Mar-Vell wore in the comics.
The issue with this hero was that the designs simply weren't finished when shooting took place!
"Her suit, every time you see it in the movie, when she's in her full costume, is digital. Again, the designs for those suits were not ready in time for us to photograph Brie. When you saw her at the beginning, as she's rescuing Tony Stark, when you see her come back, when she's talking to Nat in the Avengers compound, with Rocket and Nebula, and then in the final battle when she comes back and kind of saves the day, that's all the digital suit."

It's amazing how flawlessly VFX is able to make these changes and, had we not been told, it's fair to say that most of us wouldn't have even realised that these costumes weren't real. What do you guys think? Let us know your thoughts in the usual place and find out more in the video below.
