Tessa Thompson & Karen Gillan Think Marvel's Rumoured "All-Female Team-Up" Was Blown Out Of Proportion

Last November, Thor: Ragnarok star Tessa Thompson, who played fan-favourite character Valkyrie, generated a mass of intrigue and excitement among fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by revealing that the women of the franchise had pitched an idea for an all-female team-up movie to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

However, now Thompson's tone on the project has changed. The actress admitted to Observer that the excitement surrounding the supposed project may have been a bit premature.

I don’t know. That was kind of an offhand thing, and then the press really ran with it. The extent to which the press ran with it is also an expression of what ripe a time it is for something like that. That people are hungry for it, that people are interested in it.

I think, regardless, Marvel is making their Black Widow movie and they are doing Captain Marvel and the female characters in the big team-up movies tend to be, at least for me, some of the strongest elements.

At the recent premiere for Avengers: Infinity War, two stars were asked about the project - and had similarly disparaging comments to add. Karen Gillan, who reprises her role as Nebula from the Guardians of the Galaxy films, explained to Variety the origin of the rumors - that being an offhand comment evolving into an ambush of Feige.

I think that is just sort of a thing we were talking about casually. I remember we'd all taken a big photo, like a Marvel class-photo, and all the women got together afterwards and we were talking and we were like "Wouldn't it be so nice if everyday were like this and we were just all around each other?" And we were like "Let's make it happen."

And then I think Brie Larson and Tessa Thompson marched up to Kevin Feige and said "You need to do this!" and then we all surrounded him. But that's the last I've heard of it so, who knows?

Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Scarlet Witch in the film, also believes that the prospect was blown way out of proportion - simply stating "I think that was something that was blown out of proportion by the media, so I don't know."

What do you think about the actress' comments? Would you like the all-female team-up movie to come into fruition? You can check out both clips of Gillan and Olsen, respectively, below:
