Oscars Producers Reportedly Want To Reassemble The AVENGERS To Present Awards At The Show

Now that Kevin Hart is out as host of this year's Academy Awards ceremony, producers are reportedly interested in enlisting the help of members of Earth's Mightiest Heroes to present some of the awards.

Kevin Hart recently stepped down as host of The 91st Academy Awards amid controversy surrounding his past homophobic Tweets, and we're now hearing that they're planning to go ahead without a main presenter and bring in “a crop of A-listers to introduce various segments instead of relying on one marquee name.”

Right at the top of that list, according to THR, are the actors that make up The Avengers.

"The show’s producers are currently lining up appearances by as many big-name cast members from Marvel’s sprawling Avengers franchise as possible. An Avengers all-star Oscar reunion wouldn’t be unprecedented. Following the success of 2012’s Avengers, the 2013 telecast featured Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) together on stage. But since then the Avengers’ ranks, as well as those of its rivals and foes, have only grown, and the Academy is looking to pull together an even bigger assemblage."

The Oscars are airing on the Disney-owned ABC network this year, so there's a very good chance that this could happen. The report has also led to some speculation that we might get a look at some new footage from Avengers: Endgame during the show, but that's probably wishful thinking.

The Academy declined to comment, apparently, but there's no denying that something like this would be cool to see so let's hope it comes to pass.

Oscars: "We'll put you front and center in multiple of our shows because we know how loved you are...but don't even think of being nominated, you unartistic schlock!"

@MrDandy - this is exactly what I thought about this whole thing. It's no secret that the Oscars have been losing viewers

@MrDandy -
Oscars is a bunch of people who have a share in the films success coming together to praise themselves and to give themselves awards in order to use the associated awards to increase the value of the products.

It means nothing - hence why it has been consistently dropping in viewers.

@Scarilian - "The Oscars Means Nothing" argument is a long standing fallacy, which has been shared a lot. Yes, films nominated are from ones that have been pushed by the production companies, but still are mostly those coming off critical and festival buzz. You can't just get a movie like Transformers nominated by throwing enough money at the American Film Institute.

And yes, the Oscars have an important intrinsical value to film making. Prestige pushes are one of the primary reasons studios invest in younger, up and coming filmmakers for movies that otherwise would never find funding as they aren't big money makers. They are a means of discovering and cultivating new talent from filmmakers, actors, musicians and more.

Do the awards have a lot of flaws? Sure. But it is still a very important part of the Hollywood ecosystem that helps give momentum to small movies that otherwise would go under the radar and talent that would otherwise never find the money they need without "pre-oscar buzz" to give studio incentive to find an audience for said film.

@MrDandy - So they ditched Hart for some stupidity (I do hate PC culture) and now they want to put the Avengers cast as a last-minute scape goat.

@iDontWikeIt - Always liked this skit for both the James Gunn and Hart situation.

Looks really good! The villains definitely feel a lot more "Punishery" this time around rather than government conspiracies. The dynamic between frank and the girls looks like it'll be fun, we haven't seen Micro yet but I hope he shows up given how close his character grew with castle in s1

@MrDandy - While I'm a bit upset on the LC and IF cancellations, I wasn't really that upset with the DD cancellation - it was a great season that ended like a series finale other than a small bullseye set up. The first season of punisher also ended similarly.

Obviously an act of desperation to get viewership from the millennial generations.

Oh wow, this is going to be a weird Oscars. I always wondered about a situation where they wouldn't be able to find a host... I guess this is the year.

@Kurne - The Academy has only itself to blame. No one is willing to put themselves and every single word they've ever uttered under scrutiny and risk being pilloried for things they said years ago. It's not worth it.

This is a great idea.

Not only because of how massive the MCU is for Hollywood, but the actors in the films are genuinely funny and entertaining.

Just look at ScarJo and Hemsworth on SNL.....RDJ and Evans are hilarious and have charisma like crazy. Love the ensemble idea, personally.

also, kind of on topic because this man needs a god damn oscar already and this could be the film to do so. Jake Gyllenhaal's new film with the director of Nightcrawler (brilliant film).
