Tim Burton Might Make Another Superhero Movie; But Is Bored Of The MARVEL Formula

While doing press for Big Eyes, the Batman director told Yahoo! that he thinks it's only a matter of time before people get sick of the current superhero movie formula, mentioning Marvel Studios specifically. He also addresses the possibility of him stepping into the genre again.

There's no doubt that Tim Burton paved the way for the modern superhero movie with his unprecedented big-screen take on the Caped Crusader back in 1989 (though even he admits that the movie many criticized for being too dark back in the day "now looks like a light-hearted romp" when compared to some of our more recent CBMs), but it sounds as if he has become a bit fed up with the current glut of cape-flicks occupying our multiplexes. Seemingly blissfully unaware of some of the criticism levelled at his recent cinematic output, the Alice In Wonderland director tells Yahoo! that he feels it's only a matter of time before people begin to tire of the "funny costumes with the tights and stuff", and the overall formula adopted by Marvel. That being said, when asked if he'd ever get behind the canera on another superhero film he doesn't rule it out, and actually hints that it might be a possibility someday.

"Marvel, they have their thing and there’s a certain formula to it all which seems to still be working, but how many times can you say ‘you’re wearing a funny costume’ with the tights and stuff? That’s been going on for 20 years now. Yes, we all know that superheroes are damaged individuals. Maybe we need to see a happy superhero?  I think there is [another superhero film in me], but I don’t know. You think we need more superhero movies? It keeps on going. It’s amazing how long it’s been going for and it just keeps getting stronger and stronger. Some day people will get sick of it."
