Matt Reeves remains hard at work on The Batman, a movie it's now becoming increasingly clear we probably won't end up seeing in theaters this decade. During a recent Q&A on Twitter, the filmmaker confirmed that he's still developing the project and was asked by a fan what his favourite comics are.

Needless to say, his top picks will no doubt make fans very happy indeed, especially as there's a lot of great titles there and some fantastic creative teams. Unfortunately, Reeves has named such a wide variation of comic books that it's hard to say how they could end up inspiring his work on The Batman.

Still, there are worse titles he could have named and even if only one of these ends up inspiring the DC Comics adaptation, we're off to a very good start. What we do know is that Reeves isn't borrowing much from Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns' screenplay which would have heavily featured Deathstroke.

The long Halloween is great

@Toffee - this was such a great book, I think it was the first Batman book I read. This or Hush.

@RageDriver2401 - Great story, it would suit a tv series well. Dark victory was also good, but not quite.

@Toffee - provided they make it like a short series, 8-10 episodes with good production value and great casting. No spin-offs/second seasons.

@RageDriver2401 - True, hell provided you offer side stories and change the story slightly, you could fit into a 24 episode arc.

@Toffee - I was thinking more on the lines of how 11.22.63 was done, with James Franco.

But these greedy-ass studios man. Like I hate what they've done with Arrow (seasoned 5 and 6 haven't been bad). Arrow was originally supposed to be only 5 seasons long, 1 each for the years he spent on the island. It was to show his journey from the vigilante, the hood, the Arrow, the Green Arrow and finally the Emerald Archer. But 2018 and we're getting a season 7.

@RageDriver2401 - Very true. I do wish they would do a batman series, each series covering a different novel

@RageDriver2401 - Fans keep watching, because they need their live-action superhero content. Meanwhile the people involved with the show, keep making money so that they can...not be homeless and starve to death. It's not greed. That's just how entertainment works.💰

Long halloween and dark victory are amazing, you could see Long Halloween's influence on Nolan's Dent-Batman-Gordon dynamic.

I feel since we're going to get a movie with an already established Batman, be it Affleck or not, they should adapt Death of the Family. It's a great story in a nice tight setting, can introduce the characters of spin-offs WB already has planned (just introduce, not delve into their history). And it'll also give us a chance to get rid of Leto's horrible face tattoos, if he's still on board.

But then again, Joker has been done enough already. Hush is another great story that could make a great adaptation for a seasoned Batman, who's already lost Jason.

@RageDriver2401 - If you read the long halloween special novel, there is a interview with nolan and either goyer or nolans brother. Quite insightful.

RageDriver2401 - 4/20/2018, 2:26 AM
@Toffee - yea I have the graphic novels, I think Long Halloween had an interview with Goyer and Nolan, and Dark Victory had one with just Goyer.

@RageDriver2401 -

In fact, that scene on the rooftop where Dent first meets Batman and he disappears and Gordon goes “He does that.” That was straight from The Long Halloween.

@JeighJeigh - yea, that and "I believe in Harvey Dent". I loved these little nods.

Ego is such an underrated gem of a Batman book, it doesn't get mentioned nearly enough as it should.

I miss Darwyn Cooke so much. He was such a talent.

Year One and Long Halloween are awesome. Haven't gotten around to reading Dark Victory yet (I might have it on my shelf), and this is my first time hearing about Ego.

There's no movie, ain't gonna be no ""The Batman" with Matt Reeves. So, he likes the same Batman books we all like. Affleck's probably not gonna do this. No concrete ideas or concepts or script, no real traction here. No buzz. This is something that died well over a year ago. Let it go and wait until there's actually something to talk about.

you know what all of these have in common? :P TWO FACE IS IN THEM. *insert Pepe Silvia gif here*

lol I mean TECHNICALLY, Neal Adams wrote Half an Evil and Kane and Finger did the Harvey Kent trilogy, out of a bunch of others but it counts!!! Especially since Year One and TLH/DV stand out as prominent comics highlighting the Bruce/Batman and Harvey relationship. Even Cooke’s Ego has a tragic flashback! Would love a Batman solo centered around this friendship and tragedy.

Was hoping to see a run that wasn't one of the ususal usual suspects. What he listed is great neverthless.

One of my faves:

Devin Grayson was the only woman to write Batman. Gotham Knights is a great run if you primarily like Batman as a detective and manipulator.

The more time passes the more irritated I am that Nolan wasted No Mans Land in TDKR. Thats one of the coolest Batman stories I've ever read and I hope someone is able to make it the focus of a film one day rather than window dressing

@OmegaDaGrodd - I honestly thought that going into TDKR we would be getting some form of NO MAN'S LAND. It was perfect.

I was sorely mistaken.

@BlackBeltJones - I feel like "I was sorely mistaken" serves as a pretty accurate summary and mini review of TDKR for me

@OmegaDaGrodd - Cassandra Cain would fit perfectly in the DC Films Cinematic Universe, at least as it was initially conceived. I have no clue what the current DC Films Cinematic Universe looks like thanks to the studio interference.
