Breaking news out of WB, as it's being reported that the studio has officially set a release date for Matt Reeves' The Batman, and we've also received word that Ben Affleck will not star in the picture...

Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. has finally set a release date for Matt Reeves' long-awaited Batman standalone, which is tentatively titled The Batman. The film will open on June 25, 2021.

They've also confirmed that 2x Academy Award-winner Ben Affleck will not reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman. He departs the role after three cinematic outings: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Justice League.

The new film will focus on a younger Bruce Wayne - although it will not be an adaptation of Frank Miller's Batman: Year One - and while Affleck played a part in developing the film's story, he ultimately realized he wasn't the right fit for Reeves' new direction and decided to hang up the cape and cowl. The studio is reportedly already hard at work searching for their new Caped Crusader, so we could potentially get some news on that front a lot sooner than expected.

Additionally, the studio has dated a newly announced project, DC
Super Pets, for May 21, 2021; and The Suicide Squad for August 6, 2021. While virtually nothing is known about the former, the latter has James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) penning the script and he's now been confirmed to direct. Many of the first film's all-star cast, including Will Smith (Deadshot) and Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), are expected to return.

@HeavyMetal4Life - When I first heard he was Batman I was outraged. Then I liked him as Batman... Now I don't know what I feel...

@Imfunnyhow

Him and Alfred were the best parts of BvS despite the killing.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Yeah I am very conflicted. I keep seeing the warehouse scene and the scene where he says his super power is "I'm rich"....😐

@HeavyMetal4Life - Let's put it is this way, who cares? The DC universe is dead in film no matter how many good movies they make from here on because "A house built on a weak foundation cannot stand". Now, I have not seen Aquaman yet, but even if I love it, my statement holds water.

@regularmovieguy - Totally... The first opening scene with Batman having saved the vitcims of human trafficking and the GCPD I was like this, ok is going to be frigin awesome. But between Lex feeding some guy jolly ranchers and sucking his fingers and Superman with the sad doodoo face I was totally devastated...

@HeavyMetal4Life - In terms of performance, Ben Affleck is a great Batman, the problem was the direction they took the character. As much as Im looking forward to seeing Matt Reeve's batman, I would have still liked to see Afflecks

@HeavyMetal4Life - Great news. Never liked Ben Affleck as Batman. He was terrible as Daredevil basically a blind Batman. How anyone thought he would be good or was good is terrible.

@Imfunnyhow - Sad doodoo face LOLOLOLOL!!!

What annoys me the most is that WB actually did a great job casting these characters (going for an older Batman was a bit controversial but Ben was great in the role) but completely mishandled the characters on screen.

Henry, in my mind, is the perfect Superman but he's been given sh*t material to work with. He was made more whiny and conflicted rather than the big blue boy scout he should be.

Ben was a great Bruce Wayne and Batman, but they made his Batman a murdering psychopath.

It just sucks that these two actors didn't really get a chance to shine with good material to work with because both of them could've easily given us definitive versions of these characters.

@RocknRolla - Like a sieve. Maybe to fanboys like you. Another hit movie or two and the GA won’t care. They might not hold it in the same esteem as the MCU, nor should they but they will put their butts in seats if they get the same thrill they got out of Aquaman and Wonder Woman.

@bcom - I get so tired of this:
What's wrong with Superman having to go through a dour, conflicted phase in order to become that "boyscout," that beacon of hope everyone adores? A Clark who just wakes up one day fully formed to assume that role just isn't compelling to me, and I don't know why it would be to any of you.

Second, why is it so hard to accept the Bruce Wayne of BvS? This is a Bruce who has been pushed past his limits, so far so that he has given up on one of his guiding principles (not killing), only to find redemption by Clark's sacrifice. But all you fanboys can't get past your, "Durr hurr, muh Superman, muh Batman..."

@bcom - Let's put the blame where it belongs. WB didn't mishandle Batman and Superman. Zack Snyder is to blame for all of that.
