As of late, the future has started looking better for THE BATMAN. The Matt Reeves film, which may or may not have Ben Affleck reprise his role as the caped crusader, now has Warner Bros. execs raving.

The road to The Batman has been a rough one. With conflicting angles coming from left and right regarding the status and setting of the film, fans still don't have any firm confirmations. Reports on Ben Affleck's return have been uncertain as well, with the trades calling his reprisal highly unlikely due to personal issues. Thankfully, it seems as though the film is pushing through, even with these questions left unanswered.

A few weeks ago, it became known through outlets that Matt Reeves had turned in the first draft of his sceenplay. What did the studio think of the script? Umberto Gonzalez claims that the studio loves the screenplay, with a summer 2019 production start likely. It is worth noting that Gonzalez works at The Wrap, one of the 99% reliable Hollywood trades.

News like this bodes well for Reeves' iteration. In addition to assuring fans of the product's quality, the news also cites a start date within a year from now. With the modern self-contained blockbuster typically releasing a year after this date, 2020 is a plausible possibility for The Batman. 2020 will also see the release of DC's Birds of Prey adaptation.

Does this news make you more excited for The Batman?

Hope this has nothing to do with the DCEU.
If it is, then treat it like a soft reboot and pretend like BvS and JL never happened.

Warner Bros. loving the script means nothing to me since the studio also loved BvS, Suicide Squad & even let Justice League be made. I DO trust Matt Reeves so I'll be optimistic for now.

Batman has been my favorite comic character since I saw Burton's first Batfilm in theater. I had the VHS with the Alfred Coca Cola advertisement at the beginning.

But I think I'm the only person getting a little fatigued by Batman. Or the same reason I (even as a black guy) don't need a black Superman right now: there has been iteration after iteration after iteration of Batman, Superman and the Joker. DC has an exhaustive list of really interesting characters but lacks any kind of confidence to give them their due.

If Marvel can bring a bodyguard tree and a gun-shooting "what the hell is a raccoon" into mainstream blockbuster films, why can't DC? I'll be there opening night, popcorn in hand, but enough already. Let's get some fresh blood in here for awhile.

@rds130 -
I've been saying that Batman and Superman should be benched for awhile so others can shine.

Cast a younger Batman, who can be in multiple solos + ensembles. Really like Affleck in the role, but was a stupid idea to start the universe with a 45 year old Batman.

Extremely excited for Reeves's Batman. Easily my most anticipated DC film.
