THE BATMAN Composer Michael Giacchino Teases His Work On The Film And More Planned Reveals

The Batman composer Michael Giacchino has spilled the beans on his work on the upcoming DC Comics pic, and teased plans for more snippets of his score to be heard in future reveals and teasers!

Batman has had a lot of memorable themes over the years, whether it's Neil Hefi's camp TV soundtrack, Danny Elfman's brooding score, or Hans Zimmer's powerful soundtrack. Now, it's down to Michael Giacchino to create something new for The Batman, and Collider has managed to get some details from the composer.

Based on what Giacchino told the site, he's enjoying being given the freedom to put his own unique spin on the Dark Knight by director Matt Reeves.

"I felt total freedom to do whatever I want," he admits. "Matt always agreed, this is our Batman, this is our vision. In the same way that I always loved, what I still do about Batman comics and graphic novels is that each of these artist, each of these authors they take their own crack at what they want this to be. It’s their version of Batman."

Giacchino isn't feeling the need to live up to or imitate what's come before. "I’m not the kind of person that says Batman must always be this. It’s like no, why? It can be whatever the artist wants to be and it has over the years done that, many times over. I love the idea of taking something and just kind of doing our version of it."

The composer went on to reveal that he wrote the theme we heard in the teaser some time ago, and that a lot of his work is going to be heard in upcoming promotional material for The Batman.

"I did go over and record that for that. We recorded a bunch of other music as well for it, a bunch of themes and things that nobody has heard yet. But they’ll all be popping up as the film gets underway again and starts getting back to production, and life gets back to normal, hopefully soon."

Similar costume reveals for characters like Catwoman, The Riddler, and The Penguin would be really something quite special to see. Unfortunately, we might be forced to wait for a while because production on The Batman has been halted thanks to COVID-19, and we don't know when it will start up again given the uncertainty surrounding the film industry at this time.
