Although the trades already reported that he'd signed on for the role, director Matt Reeves has now taken to Twitter to officially confirm that Jeffrey Wright will play Commissioner Gordon in The Batman.

The Batman director Matt Reeves has now confirmed that Jeffrey Wright (Westworld, Hold the Dark) will play one of The Dark Knight's most trusted allies in his upcoming film.

The trades did already report that Wright had signed on (or was close to signing on) for the role of Jim Gordon, but Reeves made it official with a Tweet on Wednesday night, having previously done the same for Robert Pattinson (Bruce Wayne), Paul Dano (The Riddler) and Zoe Kravitz (Catwoman).

The fact that Reeves is only just confirming this news may suggest that the deal wasn't actually finalized until now. Either way, this won't come as much of a surprise to anyone after Wright was one of the first actors mentioned in connection with the movie, but it's still nice to see that the cast is now coming together.

As far as we know, the only main charactesr left to be cast are Alfred and The Penguin, although several other Bat-baddies have also been rumored to appear.

The Batman is set to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.

@IronGenesis - Honestly, part of me would love to see them bring back Jeremy Irons, even if it’s unlikely. He was a great Alfred, probably my favorite.

@IronGenesis - I know it’s not happening, but man, how [frick]ing awesome would it be if Pierce Brosnan ended up playing Alfred?

@MUTO123 - wasn’t that a reddit rumor just recently?

@IronGenesis - Yeah, which is why I say it won’t happen. Plus, I think Brosnan himself might’ve come out and denied it.

Definitely looking forward to this movie. Loving the cast so far too regardless if it’s not to everyone’s liking.

Need more casting news

@ChangAlang - Now all we need is casting for Alfred and Penguin, was it confirmed if Robin is in it or if they are saving him for a sequel

@dracula - Not sure about Robin, seems to still be in amongst the rumour basket right now.

Not sure if it’s changed since but I read Reeve’s Batman is still finding his way and not fully fleshed out. To me that means we may get a DIck Grayson cameo rather than Robin.

@ChangAlang - last I saw, he was aiming for Robin for the sequel. Like the Dark Victory story.

Hugh Grant would be a weird and interesting choice for Alfred. So would Branagh and Laurie.

@LordHarryLatts - Never thought about Branagh. That'd work really well for me. Lots of good choices out there for Alfred.
