Yeah the whole Bruce Wayne is the “mask”. Please letcthat idea be the first things to be scrapped.

@IronGenesis - I actually like the idea of that a lot. Always have.
GhostDog
GhostDog - 6/3/2019, 9:13 AM
@IronGenesis - this has always been a highly appealing part of Batman to me. Bruce Wayne is disposable, a regrettable casualty. Not to say that Bruce is not important as the Wayne name is very significant, but Bruce is not his psyche, his true self. He died in that alley.

ince, they all are holding the Lasso, it compels them to tell the truth as who they are. Wonder Woman goes on to say that she is “Diana of Themyscra, Daughter of Queen Hippolyta" Superman goes on to say that he is “Clark Kent. Kal-El”

But Batman, or Bruce, just says that he is “Batman”.
IronGenesis
IronGenesis - 6/3/2019, 9:48 AM
@BlackBeltJones - would you say the animated series Bruce died in the alley? I think originally he didn’t. The original run of the show and all the way through to Mask of Phantasm. There was a real Bruce Wayne and having him in there led to some of the more emotional powerful and heartfelt moments of the show. As I recall.

But I think as they went longer they just dropped Bruce and it was all Batman.
GhostDog
GhostDog - 6/3/2019, 10:28 AM
@IronGenesis - I agree. But I always dound BTAS Bruce to be two, sometimes three individuals: Bruce Wayne, playboy, philanthropist; Bruce Wayne: post alley Bruce who transformed to become the night, become a vigilante, who is himself with Al, Dick etc; then Batman.

Post alley Bruce and Batmna I think are either the same and/or interchangeable in a way. Bruce is just Batman stripped down, not in the suit, his guard down.

@IronGenesis - In the Batman Beyond episode "Shriek" it's revealed that Bruce calls himself Batman in his own mind. When the voices in his head call him Bruce that's how he knows he's not going crazy. Ironically.

This movie couldn't come any sooner. All of the naysayers regarding Pattinson's Batman are loudmouths with nothing better to do than to get upset at a guy who has improved his career tremendously after years of being recognized as "Twilight guy" smh.

@ComicsBeyond19 - Good Time is the best performance. He truly transformed in that film.

Kumkani
Kumkani - 6/3/2019, 9:19 AM
@BlackBeltJones - He's honestly unrecognisable in Good Time, both in the way he looks and his performance. I was surprised just seeing clips from it.

That six-minute standing ovation he got an Cannes was well earned.

@BlackBeltJones - Very true. I'd be willing to argue that his performance in The Rover is up there too.

Hoping for Nic Hoult as the Riddler

@tmp3 - I'm still on the Zachery Quinto train
tmp3
tmp3 - 6/3/2019, 12:42 PM
@inkniron - Quinto's fine, but Nic Hoult is so under utilized in boring roles like Beast. He's so damn good in Mad Max (MVP) and The Favourite; he'd be so good as a bat villain. Way better Nygma than Wayne.
inkniron
inkniron - 6/3/2019, 2:46 PM
@tmp3 - I agree. I have a feeling they may try to give him a hero role going forward though. He's definitely on their radar. I wouldn't put it passed them to have him replace Ezra as the Flash. His tall, lanky frame lends itself to it IMO
tmp3
tmp3 - 6/3/2019, 3:03 PM
@inkniron - He's a better actor than Ezra, but they keep wasting him in these leading straight man roles. Hoult's only good when he's allowed to get weird; he's a character actor stuck in a leading man's body. There's a reason he was one of the best parts of two best picture films but somehow lost out on roles in top gun 2 and fantastic beasts (and jon snow!).
When Ezra's gone I really hope they get Billy Magnussen for Flash, that dude's got so much A-lister talent.

inkniron - 6/3/2019, 4:22 PM
@tmp3 - Meh. He's good in Tell me a Story and Game Night. Other things though, I'm really luke warm on him

Dark Knight Rises' "Robin" doesn't really count

Yes it does!
knocturnalzen10
knocturnalzen10 - 6/3/2019, 9:22 AM
@Forthas - that robin or new batman would've definitely been killed in his first 2 weeks of action by a random GOON ....
THEDARKKNIGHT1939
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 6/3/2019, 9:35 AM
@Forthas - That's not Robin. His name is Robin John Blake. It has nothing to do with the character. Blake will take over the mantle of Batman. He's not going to go around fighting crime under the persona of his real name.

@blitzburgh

So that is not "Robin" because of his name? Then if that is true then everyone making that point should accept that Jack Nicholson DID NOT PLAY THE JOKER!

That's right! The Joker's real name is not "Jack Napier" who worked for a crime lord named Carl Grissom...nor did he kill Batman's parents!

Forthas
Forthas - 6/3/2019, 9:28 PM
@knocturnalzen10 -

"he struggled with 2 construction worker goons lol and he had a gun"

Yeah there were TWO of them and one snuck up on him...not to mention that they are dead and he is still alive.

"Gordon got the jump on him in the hospital"
Oh right...its not like no one ever got the jump on Dick Grayson in the comics and James Gordon is no slouch.

I think the movie made a nod to Robin with his whole name being Robin but skipped straight to the Nightwing era. We only saw the beginning of that era...saying that he would have made a bad Batman or Robin is like watching only the first 10 minutes of Batman Begins and saying Bale would have made a bad Batman.

Looking forward to Pattinson's Batman under Reeves guide.

Really hope this opens the door the The Batfamily, i understand people like to think Bats a loner or like him as one, but he has a family even if it's a broken one and made out of shattered pieces off of the floor.
Give Robin and Batgirl another chance at the movies dammit, the time is now. Batman has so much potential left to be explored on a cinematic level, and even a high budget tv level. Really hope this one turns out well.

I kind of like a 90s setting idea. Something about it feels interesting.

The grit of Gotham matching that of 90s NYC.
JosephCronos92
JosephCronos92 - 6/3/2019, 9:35 AM
@BlackBeltJones - i beleive Reeves can make Batman interesting again, al we've seen lately is Batman in "actual times" or just being an impulsive angry lil' boy lol
A 90's noir detective film with Batman (being an actual detective), and his villains galore running mayhem on gotham sounds juicy.

I just want them to take a page on Batman 90's animated show and worldbuild Bats from there.
GhostDog
GhostDog - 6/3/2019, 9:44 AM
@JosephCronos92 - Batman, for me, seems like a creature of the past too. The 80s, 90s periods had a time of crime that fits the noir moodiness of Batman.

He feels at home in a Gotham of the 80s and 90s. His tech would have stand out in those times; his resources. More so, he would really have to be a detective in a sense where, even given his advanced tools, I think the tech he would have in those decades wouldn't be outrageous. He'd still have to be a real sleuth.

99OPTIMISTPRIME - 6/3/2019, 9:54 AM
@JosephCronos92 - So you want some Gotham City world-building, and more of a Bronze Age intellectual Batman, instead of "My parents are dead, and I hate my life" angry and angsty Batman?
JosephCronos92
JosephCronos92 - 6/3/2019, 10:09 AM
@WAKANDABATMANFOREVER - YES!.

Gotham did its own thing, and i respect that, but i want that with an actual Batman movie, being an actual damn detective, and building on other damn villains besides Joker, have Joker to lurk into the shadows, like the f#$#kng maniac creepy sob entity that he is.
JosephCronos92
JosephCronos92 - 6/3/2019, 10:24 AM
@BlackBeltJones - you got it, i just want Batman to analyze, investigate and solve the puzzle before throwing a punch. His villains to be afraid of his intelligence and not only his pressence, and for the loved ones he has left to be tangled on Bruce's emotional and chaotic hero endeavor, while Killer Croc is running havoc in Gotham's dark waters, a lamenting Mr. Freeze trapped in a lab figuring out what to do with his broken heart and Poison Ivy living im her own torned rose palace. A Joker who's just a ghost creeping on Gotham city. I'm ready for a different Batman now.

Reading this lowkey grounded the entire concept of Batman for me in really cool way lol.

@Brave - when you read Dark Victory, Prey, Knightfall, or Year One, to me, it feels like quintessential Batman. Something about the period, the way Gotham reflects the time period. The tone, the look of everything. He's truly a detective in those old stories and its because of the world and time he inhabits. It comes across so well.
