THE BATMAN TV Series Will Reportedly Be "The James Gordon Show" Rather Than GOTHAM CENTRAL

Gotham Central comic book writer Ed Brubaker has shared what he knows about The Batman spinoff series coming to HBO Max, revealing that, from what he's been told, it will focus primarily on James Gordon...

Warner Bros. is clearly confident that fans will embrace Matt Reeves' vision for the DC Universe in The Batman because a small screen spinoff is already in the works for HBO Max. Joe Barton (The Ritual) is the current showrunner after some creative differences behind the scenes, and it's been revealed that the plan is for the series to take place during Batman's "Year One" in Gotham City.

That likely means the Dark Knight will have a role to play, but as little more than a myth at this stage, he'll probably be somewhere in the background. The focus will primarily be on the Gotham City Police Department, with Reeves confirming that it takes place from the POV of a corrupt cop.

Appearing on Kevin Smith's Fatman Beyond podcast, Gotham Central writer Ed Brubaker shared what he's been told about this untitled series, and he seems confident that Jeffrey Wright's Jim Gordon will be key.

"I was like, 'Maybe they’re really going to make Gotham Central this time,’ and so I reached out to a producer who works for Matt Reeves and he says, ‘No, that’s not really Gotham Central,'" Brubaker revealed. "They’re making sure that they don’t call it Gotham Central and it’s more of a spinoff from the movie. It’s like the James Gordon show."

Perhaps Gordon will get caught up with this corrupt cop, but the priority for HBO Max surely has to be making sure this doesn't feel like another Gotham (in more ways than one).

Hopefully, we'll have more details to share soon!
