BIRDS OF PREY Spinoff Focusing On Jurnee Smollett's Black Canary Rumored To Be In The Works

We've heard some whispers about this in the past, but some new evidence has now come to light which points to Warner Bros. developing a Birds of Prey spinoff focusing on Jurnee Smollett's Black Canary.

Margot Robbie reprised the role of Harley Quinn for James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, but we still don't know if there are any plans in place for the rest of the Birds of Prey. Fans are hopeful for a sequel (unlikely), but they'd almost certainly settle for spinoffs focusing on the individual characters, and we're now hearing whispers of a Black Canary project in development at Warner Bros.

Jurnee Smollett's Dinah Lance was seen as a highlight of the 2020 release, and the actress has seemingly teased her return (possible for a Green Arrow team-up) on social media in the past. Now, Daniel Richtman is reporting that a Black Canary spinoff is indeed in the works.

No further details were provided, but in a separate report, W Magazine mention that there's "been talk" of a Black Canary movie. You can check out their intriguing response to a fan on Twitter below.

We know WB has a lot of content lined up for the HBO Max streaming service, so a series or movie focusing on Black Canary is certainly a possibility, and it would allow them to introduce a new version of Green Arrow to the DCEU. That's pure speculation, of course, but there definitely seems to be something to this.

Could we get an official announcement at DC FanDome later this year, perhaps? Keep an eye out for updates.
