Chadwick Boseman would have turned 44 today, and the Marvel Studios "flipbook" intro to Black Panther on Disney+ has been altered as a way of paying tribute to the late actor.

The new sequence replaces the usual collage of MCU imagery with concept art of Boseman as T'Challa, before featuring some footage of the Wakandan warrior from his appearances in Black Panther, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Endgame.

Yesterday, Disney Chairman Bob Iger told fans to watch Black Panther on Disney+ for a "special tribute to someone that was and will always be near and dear to our hearts."

Check out the new intro below.

Boseman passed away earlier this year after a private 4-year battle with colon cancer.

We recently found out that Black Panther 2 is on track to commence production next July in Atlanta, with Narcos: Mexico actor Tenoch Huerta in talks to come aboard as the new villain. We still don't know how Boseman's absence will be handled, but Letitia Wright's Shuri is expected to "take on a more prominent role."

Happy birthday, King.

He's apparently Oscar worthy in his final film according to reviews. Gone way too soon.

My crackpot theory: Chadwick died in August. Black Widow was moved from November to May in late September. Much like the Stan Lee intro was used for Captain Marvel, I am guessing this was created in September to show before Black Widow and when they moved it, used it for this.

@DalekCraigWasson - Not that unrealistic a theory. Wouldn't be surprised if they used this intro again during Black Widow

So I'm crying now, after doing so well to hold back the tears for Chadwick since he left us. The brightest flames burn out the fastest.

I kind of wish they'd changed the music as well while they were at it. I always felt the transition from the opening scene with the kids in the car park playing basketball to the bombastic marvel theme never really worked.

In other movies the theme tune often functions as a sort of "call to adventure" after we've established the stakes of the story to follow, but here it always just feels like an awkward cut. Could have gone with something more in keeping with the moment.

Still, the overall sentiment of this modification is touching and much appreciated.

RIP.
