Kevin Feige Opens Up On Chadwick Boseman's Death And Plans For BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has explained the impact Chadwick Boseman's tragic death had on the studio while teasing Ryan Coogler's plans for a sequel that will expand the world of Wakanda...

The entire world was left reeling by the news that Chadwick Boseman had passed away after a lengthy, secret battle with cancer, and while the Black Panther sequel wasn't a priority for anyone to begin with, thoughts soon turned to how the actor could be honoured with the planned movie.

Filmmaker Ryan Coogler set to work on rewriting the screenplay, and while we don't know who will suit up in T'Challa's absence, everyone involved has praised how Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is taking shape.

Talking to Rotten Tomatoes, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige opened up about learning that Boseman had suddenly passed away. "The death of Chad [Boseman] had hit all of us extremely hard — and at the same time as it hit the world, because we didn’t know either," he admitted. "And there were all sorts of questions, and our first thought for many weeks afterwards had nothing to do with the movie, it had to do with him and his family and his wife and his legacy."

Feige went on to explain that Marvel Studios "were looking to Ryan Coogler for guidance" and noted that "discussions essentially came down to continuing the legacy of Wakanda and continuing with that storyline in a very meaningful, respectful, and yet still hopeful and fun and exciting way, which was difficult after losing Chad."

Now, with cameras expected to begin rolling soon, Feige praised Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's creative team and promised fans that they've come up with something he believes they will love.

"I will say that Ryan and our producer, Nate Moore, and the entire cast, and our co-writer Joe Robert Cole, have done some remarkable things in the story and the draft," he teased. "The team is assembling once again and cameras roll in the not-too-distant future on that. And it will be extremely emotional across the board, but I think they have something very special in mind."

It is going to be tough to watch a Black Panther movie without Boseman, and there's still no word on how he will be written out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, we can be sure that Marvel Studios will have found a way to tell a compelling story and, based on these comments, one that also honours the legacy of a hero both on and off the big screen.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to be released on July 8, 2022.
