Adam McKay Defends The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Martin Scorsese's anti-Marvel comments continue making headlines and now acclaimed filmmaker Adam McKay - who has said on numerous occasions that he'd like to direct a Silver Surfer movie - is the latest to come to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's defence.

"I wrote one, Ant-Man, and I love ‘em," McKay told Deadline recently. "I felt like, c’mon Marty, what are you doing? You’re an all-time hero, and some of those movies are really good. To anyone who disses superhero movies, I always say, watch Thor: Ragnarok. That movie is awesome."

Needless to say, it's hard to imagine Scorsese sitting down to watch a movie like Thor: Ragnarok!

Karen Gillan's Hopes For Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

During an appearance at a Comic-Con in Paris, Karen Gillan talked about her future hopes for Nebula (via "I don’t know," she admitted. "I think I would love to see what their relationship is now that their father, the source of the abuse, is out of the picture. I think that would be really interesting to see if they can form a normal, sisterly, loving relationship."

Asked for her thoughts on what makes Nebula so great, Gillan added: "She’s a sadist, the biggest sadist in the galaxy. So she loves to hurt people and inflict pain on other people, but underneath that, is a broken, hurt, bitter girl who suffered an abusive relationship with her father."

Shang-Chi Creator Discusses His Relationship With Marvel Studios

"Marvel has always had sort of a Chinese wall between the comics and the movie people, set up by some of the comic people who went over to work at the movies and didn’t want other comic book people following, basically," Jim Starlin, the creator of Thanos and Shang-Chi, revealed when asked if he had any sort of involvement in bringing the Mad Titan to the big screen.
"It’s sort of breaking down now. The Russos only contacted me as they were finishing Infinity War and asked me to come in and do that cameo for Endgame," Starlin added. "There’s more communication now between the comic book people and the movie people. I can’t say much more than that at this point, but there’s more communication on Shang-Chi than there was on Thanos."
The legendary comic creator went on to say that he imagines Marvel Studios will turn to his early work on Shang-Chi for The Legend of the Ten Rings. "I can’t imagine them starting off with anything but an origin story because you got to begin somewhere," he said before speculation that the movie could be "loosely based" on his work in Special Marvel Edition issues #15 and #17.

Deadpool 2 And Joker Star Open To Playing Storm In The MCU

Zazie Beetz played Domino in Deadpool 2 but the actress is also open to taking on the role of Storm in the Marvel Cinematic Universe once Marvel Studios reboots the X-Men franchise.

"Yeah, I think I would be down," Beetz told ScreenGeek. "I guess obviously it depends on the script and it depends on if I think it’s a good script. I think it would be super fun to do that. Storm also essentially is such an iconic character. I mean it would be kind of big shoes to fill, I think. I wouldn’t want to confuse audiences too much and be all over the place and now I’m doing DC as well."

"I think it would be super fun. I think it would be a dope opportunity."

Chadwick Boseman Hits Back At Martin Scorsese

Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman was recently asked about whether he considers superhero movies to be "cinema" following the recent controversial comments from Martin Scorsese. "I have to respect his opinion because he’s a genius at what he does. At the same time you’ve got to think about when he’s saying it. He’s saying it when he’s possibly campaigning for an award."
"He’s saying it at a time when he’s making a Netflix movie, so that’s how eyes get on his film and it’s not going to be in the cinemas," the actor continued. "It’s not going to be seen the best way. So, he is speaking to the time period. He is speaking also to his advantage…I did the first, you know, the superhero movie that was nominated for a [Best Picture] Oscar. I’m secure in that."
"The mystery that Scorsese is talking about, it’s in ‘Black Panther.’ And I think he funny thing about it is if he saw ‘Black Panther,’ he didn’t get that. He didn’t get that there was this feeling of being unsure. There was this feeling of not knowing what was gonna happy that Black people feel. Cause we never had a superhero like this before."
He added, "We thought that they, you know, white people will kill us off. So it’s a possibility that we could be gone. So we felt that angst, we felt that thing that you would feel from cinema when we watched it. Maybe Scorsese didn’t get that when he watched it. That’s cultural. Maybe it’s generational. I don’t know, but I’m secure in what we did, you know?"

Could Loki Wind Up Getting Multiple Seasons?

The folks over at GWW have an interesting breakdown of the inner workings of Marvel Studios and the LLCs they've been filing for the production companies for various upcoming projects.

Loki's appears to be "Limbo Productions I LLC" and, as you might expect, the use of "I" (the Roman numeral for 1) has led to speculation that Marvel Studios is planning multiple seasons.

That makes a lot of sense, especially as they're bound to want to keep Tom Hiddleston in the MCU.

Captain Marvel's Battle With Thanos Was A Last-Minute Idea

Avengers: Endgame editor Jeff Ford has told Slash Film that the Russo Brothers decided to expand Captain Marvel's role in the final battle during reshoots. "When Captain Marvel arrives, that was in the script from day one, the way she comes through the ship," he revealed.

"Anthony [Russo] came up with the great idea -- this was a reshoot, by the way, at the last minute -- he had the great idea that Thanos pulls the power stone out of the gauntlet, and then he punches her with the raw power stone," he continued. "That is a fantastic use of that prop and that story point, because that’s what you want. And we had to find a way that he could sideline Captain Marvel for a minute, because she’s so powerful, there’s no way to do it."
