Robert Downey Jr. Says Marvel Is 'Forward-Thinking' with BLACK PANTHER And CAPTAIN MARVEL

Including new (and very brief) thoughts from Chadwick Boseman on playing the Black Panther, check out what Robert Downey Jr. says about the growing diversity within the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

It seems Comic Book Resources also spoke with Robert Downey Jr. during last Thursday's BAFTA Los Angeles Jaguar Britannia Awards, where the actor was being honored for his excellence in film. Given Downey has been at the forefront of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the announcement of its diverse "Phase Three" installments, which include Marvel Studios' first female-led movie Captain Marvel, as well as Black Panther, CBR asked the Iron Man star what it is like to be a part of the ever-growing cinematic universe now. "It's great, and I love it," Downey replied. "But being able to have Chadwick Boseman be announced for playing Black Panther, and that Marvel is going to have a female superhero – it's those things that it would have started creating an imbalance, I think, in just what's appropriate and right and feels like what the people deserve. And so I just think that Marvel has turned into this very kind of civilized, forward-thinking company, and it's just joyful to be a part of that." For those who have been under a rock for the past week, Robert Downey Jr. and his Avengers: Age of Ultron co-star Chris Evans had introduced 42 actor Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa aka Black Panther, and he'll debut in costume as the character in Captain America: Civil War (May 6, 2016) before starring in his own movie (November 3, 2017). Speaking briefly about the role during Deadline's The Contenders 2014 event, which is currently underway, Boseman said, "[Black Panther] is not based on a real guy," unlike his James Brown role in the biopic Get On Up, "but maybe I can find him in my ether." What do you think?
