I just left the screening for it! This is one beautifully made movie! You will hate and have empathy for Killmonger all at once. Can't wait to see it again Friday!

@TheProphet
In my opinion, he was one of the best villains that you can relate to. His backstory was so sad and I really felt for him. But he was just so unforgivably ruthless!
(Not going to spoil anything, but in the 3rd act of the movie, he says a line that's deep and really hits you..especially if you're African-American.) I was like whoaaa.

Saw a screening recently.

It's a decent movie, not nearly as "amazing" or "groundbreaking" as several of the critics are making it out to be. It's a slightly above-average Marvel movie. People can't seem to be objective about the film because of "what it represents". Actual analysis has pretty much gone out the window as everyone leaps on the bandwagon and tries to make the movie far more than it is. It's juvenile and more than a little infantilizing, to be honest, but people seem to eat that stuff up here in 2018.

Positives: Michael B. Jordan. He is the true bright spot in this movie. Steals every moment he is on the screen, and is one of the best, if not the best, Marvel villain that we've seen. Also, Wakanda is a fully realized and interesting location - a lot of work was done to make this a living, breathing place.

Negatives: The pacing is really bad, and the movie is far too long for the story it is telling. I actually prefer long movies, but they should have cut about 25 minutes here. Sadly, Chadwick Boseman does not really deliver in his role, and T'Challa is not very interesting. Boseman is WAY too stiff, and his accent is ridiculous. Also, for all that has been made of the women in the movie, aside from T'Challa's sister they aren't well-developed at all. It's amazing to read reviews praising this aspect of the movie, because the women are really not much more than ancillary characters that fit into very recognizable character molds. And that's fine: the movie is Black Panther, not Black Panther and The Women Who Adore Him, but it does show you that, by and large, the critics are more concerned about saying the right things and overpraising the movie rather than giving you an honest analysis.

In five years, after the ridiculous hype and "cultural moment" nonsense wears off, this will be considered a slightly-better-than-middle-of-the-road Marvel movie. In terms of a superhero movie with a black lead, Blade is far superior.
