I can see it from both sides. scaJo/Nat deserve the same big screen treatment others have gotten getting to the big screen but on the other hand Disney can’t wait forever.

The mcu is a money maker and with its long form story telling, eventually they won’t be able to show certain shows or movies because they’ll have to wait to catch. Disney gon get this schmoney. Please belee dat

@MyCoolYoung - It really just all depends on the safety of full theaters in May, but at this point doesn't look good.

@MyCoolYoung - ScarJo/Nat should have had a solo a long time ago, you know like when she was still alive.

@MyCoolYoung -
Here's the thing. Disney has plenty of money and their credit is good. There is no need to rush this out before we are all inoculated to the point where we can go to the movies again. As this movie isn't really that integral a part of the larger story they can afford to wait.

The other point is that D+ is smoking hot. They don't need to drop a big movie on the streaming site because they have plenty of new material to add on a weekly basis. Mandalorian leads into WandaVision which leads to F&TWS. They have now hit critical mass and are able to have a new episode of something cool every week from now on.

ScarJo/Nat deserves to have her moment in the sun. Aside from that Feige knows that the long term health of his industry depends on people going to theaters so it's smart of him/Disney to let other studios drop their blockbusters on the streaming service for pennies on the dollar.

@MyCoolYoung - I'm not sure Feige has the power to stop a disney+/vod release of BW. I believe their new "consumer products, games, and publishing division" president was promoted to takeover Disney+ too. From a press release last year his release strategy AKA power supersedes any studio head of their movie studios. Chapek and Iger said that Disney+ releases are top priority over theme parks and theatrical releases.

I think this was why Soul had to be release on Disney+ even though it was intended for theaters. Sadly enough Soul is supposed to be Pete Docter's last directorial film because he's moving onto a new role within pixar that deals more with management. He directed Monster Inc, Up, Inside Out, and wrote the original toy story films.

@RolandD - I agree but they had a creative committee up until 2015 which didn’t want women lead films

@Goldboink - I’m not disagreeing with Nat deserving the same thing her costars have gotten.

This is a business. Disney was losing all kinds of money last year during the pandemic. You even started hearing they would be bought, even if it wasn’t substantiated.

No business operate under the guise of we have enough capital we can wait. None.

Also, we don’t know where this fits in the larger especially considering Florence has been rumored to be cast in other shows and movies

@mastakilla39 - I didn’t know that about Pete, thanks for sharing that.

I think Feige has some goodwill, obviously, so maybe he can buy it some time, but like you said that won’t last long. Unless the vaccine is widespread by April I see this going to Disney +

I still don't see an upside to putting it on a streaming service concurrent to release. None of the movies that did that were a financial success in the same way a theatrical release was.

@Hulkh8liars - I do not want to start an argument here. Really ambivalent since I was not planning on seeing BW on theaters anyway... But here is my opinion.

"Safer than shopping" is a weak argument.

Taking away that it is not true for everyone (Like all the people that get their groceries delivered)... Grocery shopping AND going to the movies is indeed more risk than just doing groceries. And we'll, you have to eat to live. Movies is an entertainment, which can even take place safely from home.

Not saying you shouldn't go if you want to with the proper precautions, but I am not doing it for the time being... And I don't see anything wrong with respecting other people desire to stay home either.
