With the first social media reactions for Black Widow doing the rounds online, Hot Toys has finally unveiled its Taskmaster action figure and it offers up a much closer look at the villain's costume...

While a lot of Black Widow merchandise arrived in stores last year before the movie was delayed as a result of the pandemic, some items will be rolling out over the coming weeks ahead of the first Phase 4 title's debut in theaters and on Disney+, including this very cool Taskmaster figure from Hot Toys.

This collectable features the newly designed helmet and armour pieces, a finely tailored high-tech outfit in Taskmaster's signature navy and orange colour scheme, an array of detailed weapons including bow and arrows, circular shield, sword, and a themed figure stand.

Marvel Studios has been careful to keep Taskmaster's identity a secret, so the reveal hopefully won't be spoiled in advance. However, one thing we can tell you is that while the villain's costume may be a little different to the comic books, it looks badass in motion (this character is an absolute powerhouse).

"In Marvel Studios' Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises," reads the movie's synopsis. "Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger."

In the movie, Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow, Florence Pugh stars as Yelena, David Harbour portrays Alexei/The Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz is Melina. Black Widow is directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige; Black Widow - the first big screen story in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe - arrives on July 9th both in theaters and on Disney+.

Not huge on the eye visor, but the rest is close enough to Udon for me to let it slide.

@Reeds2Much - I think that’s most people’s issue with the mask. If the mask would’ve had two separate eye holes it would be more accepted.

@Reeds2Much -

Wrong Udon...

@BlackBeltJones - You laugh now, but you just wait for Tasky to whip out that Dripping Nose Jutsu.

@WruceBayne - This exactly. And instead of the skull molding being chrome, a bone white color would have made it great. But I could have settled on it just having the smaller, separate holes.

As it is, it looks too much like a skiing visor or paintball helmet. The skull details don't stand out enough and the visor is a really big part of that.

@MrCamw1 - Jesus bro. Thats too much. I work 50-60 hour weeks, but I do that Mon-Fri. I still have the luxury of taking the weekends off. I couldn't imagine working 2 months straight without a day off. I feel for you man.

MrCamw1 - 6/17/2021, 3:54 PM
@CorndogBurglar - appreciate it. If I had known being salary had such a disadvantage (i.e. not getting payed ot) I would have second guessed the position. But like I told trip less than a week than I move to a new site.

CorndogBurglar - 6/17/2021, 4:19 PM
@MrCamw1 - Yeah, I'm salary too. But my job isn't strict about how often I work. I just have so much on my plate that if I don't work as much as I do I'll never get it all done.
MrCamw1
MrCamw1 - 6/17/2021, 4:34 PM
@CorndogBurglar - for me it's a coverage issue. We NEED the coverage and even not getting g paid extra doing it the site I work for gets mad....but God forbid they send more bodies to cover the shifts. I work in security by the way.

CorndogBurglar - 6/17/2021, 5:29 PM
@MrCamw1 - Ah, gotcha. Yeah thats rough man. I'm a project manager for Auto Finance for one the big banks in the US. No one gets mad at us, I'm free to work as much or little as I want, whenever I want. But there's a reason its like that and it certainly isn't to be nice to me lol. Its because at any given time I'm working on 10-15 projects and I'm so overloaded that I can only succeed by working that much. Being an adult sucks haha.

@CorndogBurglar - no kidding on being an adult. I too work security for a big company and what asked of my guys can be somewhat ridiculous some times.

As far as Taskmasters influences, I see Captain America’s shield, Black Panther’s claws, Hawkeyes Bow and Black Widows stickamajigs. Did I miss any?
Reeds2Much
Reeds2Much - 6/17/2021, 12:18 PM
@WruceBayne - The sword is probably attached to Hawkeye in some way. Either through Ronin or some currently unexplored connection to his past presumably with Swordmaster.
StoverCorps74
StoverCorps74 - 6/17/2021, 12:21 PM
@WruceBayne - It makes a point to show the backpack thing. Makes me wonder if he doesn't have a Falcon pack too. Maybe they are just keeping it hidden for now. Could just be a backpack... but it would be a good surprise to see him sprout wings and fly all of a sudden.
StoverCorps74
StoverCorps74 - 6/17/2021, 12:23 PM
@StoverCorps74 - Not something Taskmaster normally has I know, just an observation. And the MCU likes to change things up a bit anyway.

@WruceBayne - Haven't gotten a good look at his back side but I'm hoping he has Captain America's ass.
WruceBayne
WruceBayne - 6/17/2021, 1:15 PM
@StoverCorps74 - check out that 3rd picture from the top. The one where he’s holding the sword, shield and bow. Look at his wrist on the hand he’s holding the bow in, could that possibly be a hole for a (dare I say it) web-shooter?
Or I could just be looking too much into this. 🤷🏾‍♂️
SpideyQuad
SpideyQuad - 6/17/2021, 1:32 PM
@WruceBayne - packing two holsters, utility belt, and I'll bet at least the whip not to mention his sword
WruceBayne
WruceBayne - 6/17/2021, 1:46 PM
@Reeds2Much - I’m thinking that sword is a connection to Ronin too. Sword master hasn’t been introduced yet so and Ronin is an acceptable and easy enough plug-in.
WruceBayne
WruceBayne - 6/17/2021, 1:47 PM
@SpideyQuad - two holsters is probably a Black Widow reference. If he has the whip that’ll be an off screen acquired ability.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 6/17/2021, 2:22 PM
@WruceBayne - I would be very surprised if he doesn't have some type of grappling hook (maybe even wrist mounted?) to swing around like Spider-Man.

This is supposed to take place after Civil War so it would make sense for him to have that, and its classic Taskmaster.
WruceBayne
WruceBayne - 6/17/2021, 2:31 PM
@CorndogBurglar - they already showed Taskmaster fighting like Spider-man when he fought The Red Guardian so him having a type of grappling device like web shooters isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
WruceBayne
WruceBayne - 6/17/2021, 12:11 PM
I still don’t think Taskmaster is going to be that “Mason” character. It’s too easy of a red herring. I’m still leaning towards a gender swapped Taskmaster for the “mind blown shock factor”.

@WruceBayne - agreed

@WruceBayne - well you are wrong
JayBarrick
JayBarrick - 6/17/2021, 1:27 PM
@WruceBayne - I think the same. From the very first moment I saw the character, Taskmaster struck me as some woman disguising as a man. Like it has padding to disguise, but it only can fake so much... Also, the bone cheeks on the mask make it look feminine.

Taskmaster real identity SPOILER:

bkmeijer2 - 6/17/2021, 3:04 PM
@WruceBayne - honestly, a lot of the villain choices are a bit easy with MS. Not saying it's bad, since they have to consider keeping it simple for the general audience too.

I hope I'm wrong though and Mason is indeed not Taskmaster (I'm still holding out for it to be a mantle like Black Widow in a Red Room program)
HarrowRed
HarrowRed - 6/17/2021, 3:50 PM
@JayBarrick - Note the phrasing above: "The villain's costume" "This character is a powerhouse". Feels deliberately more difficult than just saying "his" or "he". I'd put my money on it being Natasha's "mom" or another Red Room trainee at this point.

I absolutely LOVE Taskmaster's look! My only real "complaint" would be that they should definitely have been given more of a cloak/cape attached to the hood!
dragon316
dragon316 - 6/17/2021, 2:35 PM
@xfan320 - what’s reason behind cloak and cape there is no reason for him to have that in movie don’t say comic accurate costume captain America never wear pirate boots and gloves and spandex in avenger movies , comic accurate black widow always have red hair in infinty war she is blonde that’s not comic accurate
