BLACK WIDOW Writer On How The Movie Deals With CIVIL WAR Fallout & Why She's Not Worried About Trolls

Black Widow director Jac Schaeffer has revealed a few more details about how the movie ties into Captain America: Civil War, and why she's not worried about trolls attacking the female-led release.

Black Widow will be Marvel Studios' first Phase 4 movie, and while it's set to take place in the past, we can expect it to fill in some major gaps in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's long-running history.

Now, writer Jac Schaeffer has shed some light on what fans can expect while confirming that the movie will indeed deal with the fallout from Captain America: Civil War.

The last time we saw Natasha, she had been forced to go on the run after helping Steve Rogers escape, and this movie will find her "very much on her own" after the events of that movie. As for her solo outing, that will see the hero forced to "reckon with some of the red in her ledger."

Schaeffer was also asked about the possibility that the female-led Black Widow will be trolled the same way Captain Marvel was earlier this year, but she isn't letting that bother her. "When people react with hate, it saddens me. I think it’s a shame," the writer explains. "But that’s not where I want to put my energy. I’m not interested in the loud, sour-grapes voices."

With the film set after the events of Captain America: Civil War, Johansson promises we’ll see a different Natasha than the one in past MCU films. “When something huge explodes and all the pieces are landing, you have that moment of stillness where you don’t know what to do next — that’s the moment that she’s in. In that moment, you actually have to face yourself.”

Harbour’s character is also known as the Red Guardian, Russia’s answer to Captain America. “In a way, he’s a super-soldier, but he’s also a very complicated guy. He has a lot of flaws, a lot of idiosyncrasies. It’s a very rich character” Harbour told EW.

Comic-Con attendees were treated to a fight scene between Black Widow and Pugh’s character Yelena Belova, described as a sister figure to the superspy.

It hasn't been released online but those attending Comic-Con were treated to a fight scene between Black Widow and Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova. However, it sounds like these two have a sister-like relationship and will actually be allies in the movie.

Fagbenle describes his character Mason as “a fixer,” who comes from Natasha’s past and is “kind of into her.” “It’s a bit of a complex relationship with Natasha because obviously, ostensibly we have this kind of business transaction, but I think there’s a little romantic frisson,” Fagbenle told EW.

The question is, could he be playing Taskmaster? That would certainly be a pretty interesting twist.

Weisz described her character Malena to EW as “quite a seasoned spy and assassin,” who has “been cycled through the Black Widow Red Room [program] five times at this point in her life.” She also plays a key part in a top-secret experiment within the film.
