We've already reported on several directors that are said to have met with Marvel Studios about potentially helming the planned Black Widow movie, and now we can add another name to the shortlist.

According to entertainment reporter Jeff Sneider, Kimberley Peirce is also in the running to direct the first solo adventure for Natasha Romanoff, which will see Scarlett Johansson reprise the role of the lethal former assassin.

Peirce is best known for her harrowing debut feature Boys Don't Cry, which she followed up with Stop Loss and the more recent Carrie remake starring Chloe Grace Moretz.

Though plot details have yet to be revealed, the film is expected to be a prequel which will focus on Widow's early life before joining The Avengers.

Nice, never seen anything she has directed, but I'm glad this film is moving forward.

Off-Topic: OmeagaUnderground has a good theory on what Sony is planning to do with all those (non) Spider-Man films... and it sounds pretty cool. They're positing that these films are leading to a Maximum Carnage film.

If you're not familiar with the story (or video game), click the link below.

@L0RDbuckethead - Maximum Carnage was one of my favourite video games for Super Nintendo.

That is ambitious of Sony to do. First we have to see how Venom performs.

@NinnesMBC - Yeah, same. I played the hell out of the SNES game back in 1994. But it's an interesting theory, and definitley seems to hold some weight since that Leto Morbius film was announced. All four major players in the 'Maximum Carnage' story are set-up to have solo films in the Sony Spider-verse films.

1. Venom (Hardy)
2. Morbius (Leto)
3. Black Cat (BC/Silver Sable film)
4. Nightwatch (Spike Lee rumored film)

I hope this film does not have aliens like some suggest. I wish for a simple dark (ish) tale.

@ConnorHawkeye - Seriously!? You don't know why we're getting a movie for a character that has been one of the strongest supporting characters in the MCU? If you don't know it's only because you don't want to.
