With Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige having recently commented on the fan-favorite character Blade, and how he might fit into the MCU, there's been plenty of speculation about who should play the character. While Idris Elba has been a popular choice among fans of the character, original Blade actor Wesley Snipes has weighed in on the debate.

Taking to social media, Snipes, the star of the original Blade trilogy, tweeted out a pretty definitive response to the question over who should play the "next" Blade.

It's been about 13 years since the 55-year-old actor last portrayed the iconic vampire superhero, but Idris Elba seems to agree with Snipes. Elba recently told ScreenRant that "No one can do Blade better than Wesley."

It's worth noting that we don't even know if there will be another Blade movie. Marvel acquired the film rights to the character in 2012, and in 2013 there were rumors that Marvel had a working script for a movie. We haven't heard much since then, but Feige did address the character earlier this year. "I think Blade is a legacy character now, and I think it would be fun to do something with him one day," he said.

Do you want to see Wesley Snipers return as Blade in the future?

If Wesley can’t be Blade in the MCU, then I do know 2 men for the job

And I know Mahershala was in Luke Cage, but a man can dream

@ThePanther -

He was short changed in Luke Cage, such a good villain and then gets killed and replaced by a joke of a foe half way through.

Mahershala would've been Epic as Blade, that's the Truth

@ThePanther - Mahershalais litrally the best person next to Snipes for Blade.

@ThePanther - nah i want Snipes back in the role as an old jagged vanpire hunter who failed at everything he aimed at and then decided to hide in an island far away from his responsibilities.

and when he finally comes back he just a SKIPES a video to the vampire nation and then evaporates in cloud of smoke.

@ThePanther - If he wasn't Cottonmouth, Ali would be my top choice for sure.

@TheSoulEater - I think that was the only way they could've gotten him though. He had a busy schedule and could only do part of the season. I wish they put him in prison instead though so there could at least be the possibility of doing a few episodes here and there. I think when they wrote it, they didn't know how good he was going to be and how much he was going to take off.

@BIGBMH - YES

Omg could you imagine if he went to prison and then made an alliance with the Kingpin???

@TheSoulEater - I wanted to see them play off each other so badly! Defenders would've been so much better if it was grounded in the organized crime element with them at the heart of it. Then if they wanted to give Cottonmouth a shocking death there, I would've been more satisfied.

I would love to see Jamie Foxx in the role.

Honestly I would be totally down. Have him show up, being in the shadows if they want a continuation and maybe mentoring his daughter, Fallon Grey.

I just want to see Blade again and in the bigger universe, really get into the horror/supernatural side of the MCU along with Ghost Rider. Think there are a lot of actors out there who can take the role over, but Wesley was so underrated in the role and with the CBM craze now in full force...many people should appreciate him more.

He threw away that chance with his antics during the third movie. Embrace it own it and live it

@SpideyQuad - The descriptions given of the troubled production of Blade Trinity by Patton Oswalt and co are very damning to be sure, but Marvel has in the past looked beyond an actors misdeeds as in the case of Robert Downey Jr.

Realistically, I could see Wesley Snipes being given a second chance at portraying Blade, especially if Marvel / Disney go the route of using Fox Studio's to produce their R rated universe, similar to how they currently use Netflix. DeadPool, Blade, Moon knight (please, please) and Ghost Rider could all fit well within this R rated set-up, where all the characters get movies, but are one step removed from the greater MCU as the Netflix shows are.
In regard specifically to Blade, if they were to move forward on this type of model, Wesley although in good condition to re-portray the character is on a time limit age-wise. As seen with how Marvel chose to use the story of Scott Lang as opposed to Hank Pym. Marvel could use Blade in the mentor role and introduce his daughter Fallon Grey who takes on the mantle.
I think we as fans of the original blade movies (1 and 2) would like to see Wesley back, but having his daughter take on the role of the new Blade is the best we can hope for if Wesley snipes is to be re-introduced. Just my thoughts, what do you guys think?

@SpideyQuad - There were 2 Blade movies I loved and 1 shit one. I don't remember Patton Oswalt and other company in the 2 good ones.

I am all for another Patton Oswalt free Blade movie.

@kdav - Apparently it wasn't just him that had problems with Snipes. I remember reading he was stoned all the time and only made 2% of his shots. I'm surprised he even got paid in credit for the movie. If you're interested you can find plenty to read about it on Google I'm sure. It's been well documented
