BLUE BEETLE's Rotten Tomatoes Score Has Been Revealed! BLUE BEETLE's Rotten Tomatoes Score Has Been Revealed!

With reviews rolling in for Blue Beetle, the movie has generated an all-important Rotten Tomatoes score, and there's no denying the latest DCEU title is off to a better start than its predecessors...

The reviews are in for Blue Beetle (you can read our roundup by clicking here) and while most appear to be of the 3* variety, that's considered "Fresh" by Rotten Tomatoes, something we're sure Warner Bros. Discovery is very grateful for right now.

Based on just shy of 50 reviews as we write this, Blue Beetle currently has a brilliant 88% score on the review aggregator. On the surface, that suggests the movie is a critical hit, with it scoring higher than Avengers: Infinity War and The Batman, for example.

However, that percentage will inevitably change over the coming days, though the studio is likely hoping it doesn't happen too rapidly seeing as the movie is still only eyeing an opening weekend of $30 million.

For the time being, though, 88% is a great start which means Blue Beetle is among the DCEU's best-reviewed releases. That bodes well for Jaime Reyes being part of the new DCU, even if it's hard not to worry things could change if the latest DC Comics adaptation ultimately flops.

Check out Blue Beetle's Tomatometer reveal below.

In Blue Beetle, recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab.

When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the superhero known as Blue Beetle.

The movie stars Xolo Maridueña, Adriana Barraza, Damían Alcázar, Elpidia Carrillo, Bruna Marquezine, Raoul Max Trujillo, Belissa Escobedo, Harvey Guillén, with Susan Sarandon, and George Lopez. Angel Manuel Soto directs from a screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.

Blue Beetle arrives in theaters on August 18.

I was never on the Blue Beetle hype train, even before the movie was announced. But it does look pretty cool. Plus i like superhero movies.

@GhostDog - Yeah reviews dont equate money, just look at Dungeons and Dragons this year 1 of the best film with highest reviews and no 1 cares about it. Hopefully film is as good, if not better than Shazam 1.

@MotherGooseUPus - It sits at 62 on meta. It's an ok movie, at least it's not a trainwreck.

@MotherGooseUPus - Consider the source of the article. Josh is sitting back hoping it drops so he can make a new article about how it bombed. I can see the opening of the article now.

“Despite early positive reviews, blue beetle fails to stay fresh”.

It never looked bad, just generic and cheap. And judging by the reviews, that’s exactly what it is.

@PlusUltra - And? My favourite Marvel movie had shit like this

Still didn’t make it any less enjoyable. Why can we not just admit this movie being a plausible movie is a nice surprise, and a welcome one!
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 8/16/2023, 3:07 PM
@Se4M4NSt4ine - Because it isn’t? It’s not being heralded as one of the genres best with spotty CGI like Black Panther. It’s got bad CGI on top of being a generic superhero movie.

Also you’re favourite Marvel movie also had CGI like this

Se4M4NSt4ine - 8/16/2023, 3:12 PM
@PlusUltra - I’d hope it had great CGI somewhere in it after having a long haul of a nearly 10 year production plan and multiple designs, trial and errors and box offices to come off the back of!

Don’t forget at one point, after multiple movies he also looked like this in his first appearance

All I’m saying is give this a little time man, give it a little breathing room and let’s see what happens? Might even enjoy yourself lol

@PlusUltra - Where has there been bad CGI in the promo we've been watching? Could you point it out?
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 8/16/2023, 3:28 PM
@Se4M4NSt4ine - Well, nobody’s had more trials, and in particular, errors, than DC this last decade. But I’m not really sure what Blue Beetle’s CGI looking like shit has to do with Infinity War or Marvel, or why you’d compare it’s VFX to an after credit scene from 11 years ago. Or even genre defining CBMs like the Avengers, when this movie isn’t even the same stratosphere as those movies, but okay.

Look, I hope fans enjoy this one, but let’s not kid ourselves. This is going nowhere, and the only time you’re going to be seeing Blue Beetle again, is in supporting roles in whatever movie he may or may not pop up in again. And by that time, he’d have aged out, like the Shazam kids. This is DC we’re talking about here. Expect nothing, and somehow they’ll still find away to disappoint.

@NinnesMBC - i didn't notice anything crazy...i get the feeling that most critical comic people seem to automatically say "the cgi is crap" for every trailer...movie looks good, looks fun...cgi looks fine...i just saw "band of brothers" from what, 2009-ish?...the cgi for the parachute drop was so bad, but at the time, im sure it was amazing...this is fine

@PlusUltra -What? Do you just argue for the sake of arguing on the internet?

My point I’m clearly making is you whether you’re a blockbuster giant like Endgame or IW, or a first solo outing origin story - you’re gonna have shitty CGI - hence why we’ve got a strike in Hollywood.

But the reason I used Infinity War is because that’s a movie made for twice as much as Blue Beetle, and it still has bad CGI - BUT that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable.

Stop being an unaffected ass hole on the internet, just because you can.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - You’re trying to make a false equivalency here which is why you’re not making a point. Infinity War had a few spotty moments that weren’t even highlighted within its reviews. One of the biggest complaints about Blue Beetle, other than it being competently generic, is that the VFX isn’t good. It’s not the same.

You can call me an asshole all day long, but I’m not the one getting all bent out of shape here over this. You are.
NinnesMBC
NinnesMBC - 8/16/2023, 4:22 PM
@PlusUltra - I have and they aren't anywhere to being close to the bad CGI we had to see in Flash two months ago. The suit up scenes with the Scarab looked cleaned, the costume itself isn't too busy with the VFX to the point it looks fake. You are gonna need to give actual examples.

@soupysales - Pretty much. "CGI is crap" is the de facto main argument these days in terms of judging a comic book film and just alone by the trailers. One has to consider this doesn't have huge budgets like the films WBD was hoping they could bank, so they have been more careful in what they can do.

You gotta love Josh’s ability to throw shade on an otherwise good headline. “3* variety”

How much of a deep dive does he do for other non-DC CBMs?
