CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 Rumor: Is Falcon Just Sam Wilson In The Sequel?

Leaked info, a photo and a brief conversation with a production person has things sounding like there's a chance Falcon will just be called Sam Wilson in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Read more after the jump...

So far the only main actor seen around the exposed Downtown Cleveland sets of Captain America: The Winter Soldier is Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury. The other actors are definitely in Cleveland since they've been spotted at various hangout spots around town the past week or so. Marvel has their lead actors lurking where cameras are not able to see them.

One actor many fans are excited about—besides Cap, Winter Soldier, etc.—is Anthony Mackie's Falcon (Sam Wilson). An introduction to the hero will occur in this sequel and it is assumed Falcon could be a new member of The Avengers, in the ensemble film's sequel in 2015.

A possible issue with Falcon right now, apart from not seeing him on set and in full costume, is what will he be called on the big screen. The Daily SuperHero managed to ask an on location production member about Falcon and the response was, "You mean Sam Wilson?" And nothing more was said.

Was that a hint? It's starting to sound like Falcon might not be called Falcon at all and he will just be Sam Wilson in Cap 2. Yes, this is just a guess right now but even in the leaked script pages from the Washington D.C. filming it listed the character as Sam Wilson. Not as Falcon.

Don't forget that in the new animated series Avengers Assemble Sam Wilson is called by his name and his suit is called a "Falcon suit."

The only piece of evidence that goes against Wilson not being called Falcon is a photo which was taken of a black case on the back of a production truck that read "Falcon." (See that photo below.)

Marvel Studios has used the real names of characters in past movies. Some examples include: Savin who was not called by his comic villain name Coldblood in Iron Man 3 and Ivan Vanko who was not called Whiplash in Iron Man 2, to name a few. So there is a legitimate chance Marvel might not call the hero Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Especially since those leaked script pages did not call him Falcon.

Just a theory, but perhaps a passing joke about a falcon could be in the script as a homage to the hero's name. Sounds like something Marvel would do to add a splash of humor to a scene.

Stay tuned as The Daily SuperHero is your on location source for Captain America 2 in Cleveland.
