Last night, Captain Marvel officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office.

Marvel Studios' first big-screen adventure for Brie Larson's space-faring hero was on the cusp of joining the billion dollar club for the past few days, but now we have word that the movie has taken in $358.1 million in the US and $644.5 million overseas, bringing it just over the line with $1002.6B.

Should Avengers: Endgame also manage to hit $1 billion - and that's pretty much a guarantee - Marvel's "Infinity Saga" will close out with 8 of 22 MCU entries joining that illustrious club, which is pretty damn impressive.

Tell us, did you expect Captain Marvel to achieve this kind of BO success, or are you surprised by how well it's done? Drop us a comment down below.

@Chewtoy - How Carol came to crush the haters

@SonOfAGif - More like The Avengers came to help Carol crush the haters, which means she didn't really crush them at all.

@Chaos200 - What? She was not in any promotion for Endgame until after her film came out.

@Chaos200 - pretty sure she had a stellar opening weekend even before the avengers were mentioned

@Chaos200 - What happened to Antman and Wasp? Is it not next to an Avengers movie?
Chaos200
Chaos200 - 4/3/2019, 8:03 PM
@SonOfAGif - Yeah like the general public are that stupid? She was only advertised at the end of the biggest MCU movie of all time and was released a month before the next biggest MCU movie everyone knows she'll be featured in and some even believe will be the hero that saves them all, I'm sure that did nothing for her success, this mediocre movie would've STILL hit a billy if it was a standalone made by Fox or something? Right?
Chaos200
Chaos200 - 4/3/2019, 8:04 PM
@JonC - She was mentioned at the end of Infinity War, that's all marvel needed to do.

@LaserKing - If you pay attention theres a trend going on with these box office numbers, all except black panther made most their money worldwide, not domestic. Black Panther had the American black community behind it which contributed heavily to its box office success. Ant-Man and the Wasp did very badly worldwide due to the World Cup being so big in Europe and was pushed very far away from it's US release date, very bad idea as most of the day one fans in Europe most likely pirated it online when it came out in the States to see what happened. Ant-Man and Wasp also wasn't advertised at the end of Infinity War like Captain Marvel, which implied she'd be a big part of the sequel so logic says "go see her movie for a preview of Endgame" not so much Ant-Man and the Wasp. Also the culture war between 40 year old white men on YouTube and SJW's in the mainstream media definitely helped to boost the box office, It was constantly in the news and the idiots on youtube inadvertently helped the movie they were against.

@Chaos200 - She wasn't "mentioned" at the end of Infinity War. The general public had absolutely no clue what that stinger referred to. How you personally feel about the movie doesn't change that fact.

People continue to see this movie because they choose to.

@rds130 - hahaha yeah sorry your right, nobody researched that stinger at the end of the biggest MCU movie of all time and what nick fury's intergalactic pager meant. Just like no one researched the big purple skrull looking guy at the end of Avengers in 2012.

@Chaos200 - Ahhh, so you're upset with the great marketing team that the MCU has, not Brie...I got u now, Lol.
Chaos200
Chaos200 - 4/5/2019, 2:28 PM
@TRexx21 - I'm not upset just giving out facts, at least you agree it was the marketing and not the movie or Brie by her own merits, people are trying to say it's cos the movie is good and deserves it, it doesn't and it's not, that's literally my point.
TRexx21
TRexx21 - 4/8/2019, 3:05 PM
@Chaos200 - The marketing helps with EVERY Marvel movie so don't do that...the movie was good, was it the best? No...but it was still a solid addition to the MCU. But feel free to hate on it as much as you want, the proof is in the receipts on how "bad" it is, lol.

@Matador - WW made $821m worldwide, so by that measure Captain Marvel passed it a while ago.

@Matador - On the Domestic side, Wonder Woman did a little better earning over $400 million, but worldwide box office is in favour of Captain Marvel.
BiggerLuke
BiggerLuke - 4/3/2019, 12:56 PM
@Eghan6 - Captain Marvel is nowhere near being finished. By the end it WILL outgross Wonder Woman domestically by a large margin and Aquaman World Wide by a large margin. It deserves it too. It's far better than either of those crappy DC films.
JonC
JonC - 4/3/2019, 2:00 PM
@BiggerLuke - outgrossing wonder woman in the domestic box office will be hard, but passing up the total of the Nolan Batman movie will be easy
DoubleD

@JonC - Captain Marvel on the 25th day which is today = $355,628,923

Wonder Woman on the 25th day = $321,178,658

Captain Marvel has a 35 million lead on Wonder Woman. I feel Captain Marvel has pretty good odds to beat Wonder Woman domestic.

@BiggerLuke - Yeah there's a good chance that the domestic 'cume for Captain Marvel can eclipse Wonder Woman (hopefully). With no significant competition between now and Endgame (except Shazaam). We could easily see it leap over 400 million and surpass Wonder Woman. It might even get a boost closer to Endgame the same way Black Panther got a boost closer to Infinity War.

@BringFFtoMCU - his schtick with Aquaman was "well, the audience has spoken with their wallets so the movie is positively 100% good then too bad!"

Love how that all changes in *ahem* different situations.

@Battabing - If Iron Man, Thor and Cap were considered B list heroes back when they were introduced, then this is a pretty amazing achievement for a C list heroine.
Looking forward to the Russo's interpretation of the character within a team.
