THE MARVELS Director Nia DaCosta Teases "Specific, Personal, Sometimes Sad" Sequel

It's been confirmed that Nia DaCosta (Candyman) is now working on The Marvels in London, and the filmmaker has given fans a vague idea of what to expect from the tone of the Marvel Studios sequel...

Brie Larson has been sharing training videos in preparation for her return as Carol Danvers in the Captain Marvel sequel, and it looks like we now have confirmation that cameras are (or soon will be) rolling in London.

Marvel Studios hasn't made an official announcement, but EW mentions that Nia DaCosta is "currently in London working on her third feature" during a new interview with the director. During their chat, DaCosta reveals that working on the MCU adventure was something of a relief after pouring so much into her dramatic debut feature Little Woods and upcoming horror reboot, Candyman.

"It's a lot less traumatizing to work on for sure," she says. "But this movie also deals with specific, personal, sometimes sad things. But no, it's been nice to work in a different world for sure."

Monica Rambeau seemed to have some unresolved issues with Danvers over the death of her mother in WandaVision, so their more strained dynamic might be what DaCosta is referring to.

A recent Phase 4 preview revealed that the sequel is officially titled The Marvels. Plot details are still under wraps (you can check out a vague logline here), but we do know that Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani will make her big-screen debut as Kamala Khan, and WandaVision's Teyonah Parris will reprise the role of Monica Rambeau. British actress Zawe Ashton (Fresh Meat, Velvet Buzzsaw) is also on board as the main villain.

DaCosta will direct from a script by WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell. The Marvels is set to fly into theaters on November 11, 2022.
