Mindy Kaling is currently doing the rounds to promote her new movie Late Night and in the interview below, The Office alum reveals that she's spoken to Marvel Studios about Ms. Marvel's big screen future. As well as being an actor, Kaling is also a writer and producer so it's not clear whether she would be involved with the project in any way but she certainly sounds enthusiastic about it.

"I think the people I've spoken to [at] Marvel about it are so excited about the character, and I think that they're trying to figure out what to do with it, and I told them I would help in any way, because I truly love her," Kaling reveals. "But they seemed really interested, and I think they will probably do something."

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has talked enthusiastically about the character in the past and while it's unclear where she could fit into future plans, Kaling seems to think Disney+ could be a good option. "Now that there's, like, this streaming platform with them, it might be something like that, but I think they understand how much there is... the excitement, you know," she continued. "Riz [Ahmed], me, every different Desi actor was very excited."

Ms. Marvel has a sizeable fanbase and could easily work just as well on the small screen as the big one (especially if those Young Avengers rumours are accurate).

As for who Kaling thinks should play the hero, she came up with a very interesting suggestion. "You know, I feel like [Ms. Marvel] might need to be an unknown. Wouldn't that be exciting?" It certainly would and given the age of the character, it seems like the most likely outcome.

What do you think?

That's cute, though I doubt she'll actually be Ms Marvel of course. Having a producer credit would be nice though.

@DnA - What? In the video she says she's talked with Marvel in regards to writing it, and she says they should cast an unknown for the part.

She'd be a great choice to write this for sure, and probably direct too looking at Marvel's trajectory of hiring indie/low budget directors.

I am on board with all of this.

Slightly OT; please use this film/show as a second chance for LockJaw.

I mean yeah it probably has to literally be an unknown because how many people both fit the role and are known?

Yes to Mindy being involved somehow. I love that Riz Ahmed and others want to get the ball rolling too. Disney+ would be great for it as we'll be able to spend more time with her.

@Whaley87 - I think I'd prefer a theatrical release. She's one of the few legacy characters that's more interesting than their predecessor imo.

@tmp3 - Yeah? Fair enough, Fiege and co. will do her justice, I'm sure. Which other legacy characters do you go for?

@Whaley87 - Miles Morales is great, especially in Spider-Verse (hmm.. time for a rewatch?) but Peter Parker is such an iconic character that it's hard to top. Falcon Cap is meh for me. I like Kamala Khan quite a bit, though to be fair I'm a brown person myself so that might somewhat skew my perception.

I’ve only seen her in cartoons and such for the most part, but I’m excited to see her come to the MCU as well.

I wonder if she'll be an inhuman in the mcu, after what happened with the show and all that AoS has done with the concept

@Polaris - I think she will maybe be an "accident" or an offshoot Eternal that is just not Inhuman.

@BlackBeltJones - You're probably right, the Eternal option seems very likely

Let’s just get her and squirrel girl up and running on screen together!

And as much as I loooove her (and milana vayntrub)
I feel like it def has to be young unknowns, with lots of
Avengers cameos, and obviously captain marvel heavy.

I bet we'll see Kamala Khan sooner rather than later.

I have a Muslim coworker straight from Pakistan who moved to the States 3 months ago, and she didnt even believe I was being serious when I told her there was a superhero with nearly the same lifestyle she has now

No, just no.

Also it would be so hilarious if a white girl is cast as Ms. Marvel. The amount of bitching/crying would be worth it.

How about having her play the role and no, she wouldn't need to lose weight. I think, after fat Thor made his debut, we are now ready for a chubby girl superhero. A little junk in the trunk, some unruly hangers and wicked super powers. It's not like Ms Marvel will need to do a bunch of running and stuff. Maybe if they decide to go with a skinny teenager for this they can create a new character called Big Leg Emma, who doesn't shave either.

If Marvel Studios decides to make a Ms.Marvel movie I will watch it as I am going to watch every Marvel Studios movie at the cinema.

But I would rather they made something else instead of Ms.Marvel.
