Director Ben Wheatley (Free FireHigh Rise) appears to be ready to make the jump to studio features with an adaptation of Frank Miller and Geof Darrow's Hard Boiled. According to Deadline, Wheatley and Warner Bros. are working on acquiring the rights to the The Dark Horse mini-series, which follows Nixon the cyborg tax collector who is the only hope for his robot species' revolution. Miller and Darrow won the Eisner Award for Best Writer/Artist for their work in 1991.

Deadline also indicates that Wheatley is looking to reteam with his High-Rise star Tom Hiddleston for the film, presumably as Nixon.

In 2001, David Fincher and Nic Cage had their sights set on adapting the three-issue comic book and over the years a few other filmmakers have been attached to the project, including Frank Miller himself. Wheatley, a singular filmmaker with a background in darkly comic thrillers and horror films, is a fascinating choice for the material.
