DC comic book fans were upset that the build-up to the big Batman and Catwoman wedding didn't play out as hoped. However, a new miniseries from King just may deliver the fairy tale ending

Tom King's Batman run has revealed that Bane has been the mastermind pulling the strings in a calculated cerebral assault on The Dark Knight reminiscent of the Knightfall arc from the early '90s where he famously broke Batman's back.

The looming showdown between The Bat and Bane will play out later this year in the City of Bane arc, which will close out King's run on the title at 85 issues (as reported yesterday), a little short of his initial goal of 100 issues.  However, he'll still be able to write Batman adventures as he's simply moving off the main Batman title at DC and writing a 12-issue Batman/Catwoman miniseries.

A new writer will be taking control of the main Batman title this January, as the book will return to being a monthly title instead of bi-weekly.

In a press statement, King admitted that it's not easy to leave the main Bat title.  "“It’s tough to leave Batman.  It’s a gift and a joy to be on that book. But I’m leaving it to work on the biggest, most ambitious projects of my career, comics I get to make with the best collaborators in comics. And that’s a gift and a joy too.”

DC Comics shared the details earlier this afternoon.

Wonder who’s writing the main book?

@noahthegrand - If they get Tom Taylor to do it...WOOOOOOO!

@noahthegrand - they should get Al Ewing. I hear Immortal Hulk is a masterpiece, and those horror sensibilities would suit Batman well

@DeadWade213 - Well I think the plan was all along to have that be the conclusion of his run.

I have always wondered why does DC focus on Batwoman. They should just focus on Catwoman as the counterpart to Batman. Batwoman has never made any sense to me!

@Forthas - she’s kinda cool and has a nice costume though.

@noahthegrand - You have Batgirl and Batwoman...just seems repetitive!

@Forthas - similar names, but two completely different characters imagined by two different creators with different visions and ideas and arcs. How many Robin's are there, and how many are the same character? Names are names, it's the characters behind them that writers explore that matters. Barbra Gordon, Kate Kane and Selina Kyle are all vastly different characters and to limit these characters to "Batman only needs one female character in his world" is absolutely preposterous. They all have interesting merits. They are different characters, and I've enjoyed what each have added to the mythos of Gothams characters.

@PTM - So my question is why not have characters neither tied to or dependent on Batman. I think Catwoman fits that role. Bat girl and Batwoman...not so much. These writers should have created other characters to develop independent of Batman but could still be based in Gotham.

@Forthas - well, there’s always ....Onyx. Or Huntress? Spoiler is cool but she’s been at different points a Robin and a Batgirl.

Cool that he gets to do Batman/Catwoman, guessing it's a way for him to finish off the rest of the 100 issue arc he planned seeing as he's stopping at #85.

Well I doubt Snyder is coming back, which sucks because he never should've been taken off in the first place. Bendis has already overstayed his welcome. Morrison has already done all he can with Batman. The only writers who would get me excited for Batman again would be Remender or Hickman. It'll never happen, but if they let Garth Ennis do whatever he wanted with Batman, sales would triple.
