COMICS: "Evil Is Relative" In New FOREVER EVIL Teaser; Geoff Johns Reveals New Details

"As far as the world knows, the Justice Leagues are dead. What happened to them and where they are will be revealed within the pages of Forever Evil, which is focused squarely on the greatest villains in comics. Evil is relative – and what I mean by that, is that our villains are as complex, as deep and as compelling as any of our heroes. Every antagonist in the DC Universe has a unique darkness, desire and drive. And the reason for being of Forever Evil is to explore that darkness. We start literally, in the first issue, when the whole world goes dark; communication and power are gone. And as our Earth is plunged into darkness, the Crime Syndicate begins their plan for conquest.

[They] make themselves known and they enact their mission to take over. They will lead an army of super villains, but not every villain sees things the way they do,” he continued. “Every villain in the DC Universe wants something different and not all of them want to rule the world. Or at least, not all of them want to rule the world in the way the Crime Syndicate do. For them, and Ultraman in particular, it’s not about good and evil. It’s about strength and weakness. They’re the strongest, most powerful people on their planet, therefore they have ruled it. I’ve revealed a lot, but not everything. You can see Batman in this art. What’s that about? Why would Batman follow Luthor? Is that even Bruce Wayne?! There are many more surprises coming up. Because if there’s anything about villains you do know, it’s that they’re unpredictable."

Who's the red guy in the Syndicate. I don't recognize him

Deathstorm, the opposite of Firestorm sounds so cool.

Deathstorm is a scientist who’s been merged with the dead body of his lab assistant. It’s given him a cold demeanor and a clammy touch. He’s essentially a mad Nazi scientist with Atomic Power at his hand.

Thats deathstorm, Firestorms opposite.

Johnny Quick or Deathstorm?

My question is how is Power Ring using the green light if he's a bad guy.

And yeah Deathstorm was [frick]ing badass in Brightest Day.

Because power ring comes from a world where everything is the opposite so Im assuming the green light is bad in his world.

As Johns says the ring picks him because of his cowardice, which is the opposite of the Green lantern who are chosen for their fearlessness.

@FastestManAlive okay, that clears it up. Nice username btw.

@3DWitchHunt what? Trinity War is been pretty good. Even the tie-ins are good.

Its been ok for me
Expected a bit more
Hopefully the second half is better

Only tie in I've read was Constantine
Were the others any good?

So Trinity War was just a way to introduce The Crime Syndicate into the New 52. Again so The New 52 was just another way of rehashing old stories? I liked what Grant Morrison did with The Crime Syndicate on his run.

@ 3DWitchHunt

It's sad you have to ask that. What I mean is, we can't POSSIBLY follow these MEGA events (and EVERYTHING is a SUPER SPECIAL GOT TO READ THIS event ), we cant follow them everywhere they go - WAY to expensive to even consider it. And then we're left wondering what's going on.
Back in the "CRISIS on INFINITE EARTHS" days, 3 quarters gotcha in. Now every thing is $3 to $5.
Less mega events please.

Agree to an extent
Yes, comics are way to expensive, but no, we can definitely follow them if they are set up like Trinity War which is essentially just JL, JLD, and JLA
The tie ins arent needed in order to understand the story

But yes, less events would be better (coughMarvel(cough)
KrazyForKomix
KrazyForKomix - 8/9/2013, 3:08 PM
"Aren't needed?"
What does that mean?
I thought if the writers included it in the story line, then it has import. You're NOT suggesting that some of the books are written just because they know comic fans are traditionally anal retentive completist, are you? THAT's a VERY cynical viewpoint . . .

WOOOO!!! The Crime Syndicate is back! In theory, I love these guys!

... I say "in theory", though, because I can only name one good story that features them: J.L.A. Earth Two. Every other attempt to use these characters has come off as dull and childish. But pitting them against an army of supervillains rather than the Justice League sounds like just the thing to liven things up and make their story interesting...

(My only concern is that this Owlman would be suspiciously close to the Owlman from the end of the Night of the Owls storyline in Scott Snyder's Batman run. I liked the fact that Snyder introduced Thomas Wayne Jr. into the regular New 52 universe, but doesn't that make this Owlman a bit... redundant?)

(... Aw, well. It doesn't matter, as long as this turns out to be a great story, too!)

Hi. My name is KrazyForKomix, and I'm a cross-over-mega-event junkie.
- Hi Krazy!
Yeah . . . hi. I used to be a junkie for the super event fix. You know the ones, every hero is involved AGAIN to save the universe AGAIN. They almost never work alone anymore. It used to be shiny chrome covers that got me. but then the mega crossovers started. And at first . . . WOW. I mean, really . . . WOW! They were soooo tantalizing and jam packed. It was like falling in love with comics all over again when we wished Spiderman would meet Iceman. You remember, yes?
But there was a price. i couldn't see it at the time. but there was a price. Soon, I couldn't distinguish the good stories from the bad. They all just blended together with their heroes-in-heroic-but-angry-poses and their special logos graphically obliterating the "normal" logos.
I tell ya' I'm close to getting my 2-year recovery coin. I'm clean and sober . . . no marketing department inspired crossovers for me. no sir. I'm clean. Really clean . . . I don't even WANT to know why Batman is following Luthor. Probably a stoopid reason . . . he's probably not even Bruce Wayne anyway.
Yeah . . . i'm cured. Totally off the stuff.
I'm c-c-cur-r-red.
TheFox
TheFox - 8/9/2013, 3:19 PM
Also, Sinestro is back! And he's still Parallax!

... I wonder if this will dovetail into Johns' "happily ever after" epilogue from GL #20, or if he's cool with that just being a hypothetical ending, and if he is willing to push the characters in new directions.

Either way is cool. Just an observation.

And here's another one: OH MY GOD THIS ART IS AMAZING I LOVE IVAN REIS' WORK SO DAMN MUCH!!!

I wasn't gonna get into this before, but if Reis is drawing it, I'm there.

Actually the silver age stories with the Crime syndicate was pretty awesome.

But you do have a good point with Thomas Wayne. This does make him kinda redundant.
