DC: Rebirth contained plenty of twists and turns for readers, including the return of the original Wally West and the 'original' Superman, the existence of three separate Jokers, and a general synchronization of the New 52 and pre-New 52 universes. The biggest revelation, however, was the reveal that the Watchmen would now have a presence within the greater DC Universe.

Since that reveal, there hasn't been much in the way of the characters making their whereabouts or purpose known. Many fans have suspected that Mr. Oz, who has appeared in several DC titles, is secretly Ozymandias, and Doctor Manhattan has been hinted as the character who has "stolen ten years" from the characters of the DC world. According to Batman writer Tom King, Batman #9 (which releases October 19th), will begin addressing the connections.

"It starts in Batman #9," King told io9. "It’ll hit there. This is a new continuity, so a lot of stuff is happening in Batman that affects the spine of the universe. It’s been going on, you just haven’t noticed it. For example, they just announced Suicide Squad vs the JLA— that’s coming out of the Amanda Waller stuff that we did in Batman. It’s a long-term plan, so that spins out of the 'I Am Suicide' arc. And then in Batman #9, you’ll see the first hints of how the Watchmen storyline will play throughout the Batman universe."

How do you think the Watchmen will factor in to the DC universe? Let us know your theories in the comments.
