Ava DuVernay's New Gods movie may not be moving forward, but the filmmaker has another DC project in the works: a small-screen adaptation of recent DC Comics series, Naomi.

Production has now officially begun on the CW series, and DuVernay has taken to Twitter to share a first look at star Kaci Walfall as the titular hero as she zips through what appears to be a school corridor on her skateboard.

DuVernay teamed with Arrow writer and co-exec producer Jill Blankenship to write and exec produce the project, which is based on the 2019 teen superhero tale of the same name from writers Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, and artist Jamal Campbell.

The comic follows Naomi McDuffie, a teenage superhero from an alternate Earth with energy-based powers who discovers that she was sent to the Prime Universe to be preserved from Zumbado, the destructive conqueror of her home planet.

The show is expected to focus on "a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes."

Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes are also on board as producers.

Not that interested in Naomi (brian michael bendis has been mostly crap since he switched conpanies) but ill give it a shot, if we are lucky this show’s success could lead to a revival of the new gods movie

Still mad that she's not doing her New Gods movie anymore (although Tom King being the writer did have me pretty nervous for it tbh).

I'm not interested in her at all, notice she has been pushed to front of Justice League. Yeah they cancel New Gods and The Trench, no sign of Man Of Steel 2 but we are getting a Naomi movie because everyone is demanding this character.

I was actually looking forward to New Gods, but I guess that they're actually moving forward with this and so Ava had no time anymore for New Gods
