INVINCIBLE Live-Action Film Still In Development; Won't Tie Into Amazon's Animated Series

Invincible creator and writer Robert Kirkman has shared an update on the long-rumored live-action adaptation, confirming that it's still on the way, and a separate project to Amazon's animated TV series!

If you've read an issue of Invincible, you'll know it's a sprawling, epic, bloody series which won't be easy to adapt on a budget. Most fans weren't surprised when it was confirmed that the Image Comics title is being adapted as an animated series for Amazon, and assumed the live-action film had been scrapped.

The show has attracted an A-List cast a film could only dream of, but creator and writer Robert Kirkman has confirmed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that there's still hope for a big screen take.

"That is still very much in development. That hasn't changed. We're just taking a long time," The Walking Dead scribe confirmed. "But we've been fortunate enough to have a two-track plan with Invincible. Right now we've got the animated series at Amazon, which is now on the cusp of launching, and then we're also still developing it as a film series with Universal, with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg attached."

"So, those two things are still very much happening concurrently, which is somewhat weird, I guess," Kirkman added. "But there've been Spider-Man animated series and Spider-Man movies at the same time. So, I think we're in good company."

A star-studded animated series on Amazon is a smart way to generate awareness for Invincible, and if it's a hit, Universal is likely to prioritize the live-action take from Rogen and Goldberg.

Those two are no stranger to violent comic book adaptations, as they executive produce The Boys, and previously worked on Preacher. We might be waiting a while for an Invincible film, but the series is scheduled to hit Amazon on March 26, 2021, so we will be keeping a very close eye on that one.
