COMICS: Ben Reilly's New SCARLET SPIDER Costume Looks Much Better On This Variant Cover

The similarities between Spidercide and Ben Reilly's new costume generated quite a stir earlier this month, but a new variant cover for The Scarlet Spider #1 arguably makes the suit look a lot cooler...

We still don't know how The Clone Conspiracy will end, but we do know that Ben Reilly will return as the Scarlet Spider in a series from Peter David and Mark Bagley later this year. However, a first look at the character's new costume proved controversial thanks to a mouth on the suit which a) made him look too much like Spidercide, and b) generally just looked pretty goofy and totally out of place.

Well, Greg Land's variant has now surfaced, and while the proportions are a little out of whack (Spidey looks almost froglike here), it's fair to say that the suit looks considerably better here, with the hood working a lot better than in the previous versions and no sign of any sort of mouth. Could it be tat Marvel has ditched that due to the backlash from fans? We're going to have to wait and see for now.
