COMICS: Grant Morrison On AVENGERS VS. X-MEN: "That Ain't My Scott Summers"

Grant Morrison, writer of New X-Men, has shared his thoughts on the way in which the fall of Scott Summers/Cyclops was handled in Avengers Vs. X-Men, and like most fans, he's not a fan of the direction that Marvel have taken the character in.

While writers like Joss Whedon and Kieron Gillen have spent the last few years fleshing out Cyclops, it should also be remembered that Grant Morrison arguably kicked off that trend with his run on New X-Men. It was in that series that we saw Scott Summers really come into his own, leading a team of X-Men and even ending his relationship with Jean Grey in order to hook up with Emma Frost (a character that he has been in a relationship with ever since). It's understandable then that Morrison isn't best pleased with how Cyclops was handled in Avengers Vs. X-Men. Many thanks to Comic Book Resources for the following excerpt from a panel at this year's New York Comic Con.

[I haven't] actually seen it. I read about it online. That ain't my Scott Summers. That ain't my guy. The guys working on those characters are trying something new, trying to push the story and I'm fine with it but I didn't recognize him and I don't think he'd do any of those things. Maybe he's been possessed -- he's always getting possessed, that guy. Maybe he likes it."

So, he's not exactly as fuming as the majority of Cyclops fans, but he's clearly not loving the fact that the character was arguably handled VERY poorly in the series which wrapped up two weeks ago. More comments from Morrison can be found by clicking the link below, including the fact that he doesn't like the current iteration of 'Animal Man' being tied into the Red and his plans for the return of the villainous 'Dr. Hurt' in Batman Incorporated. What do you make of what he has to say above? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!
