COMICS: Jennifer Walters Will Now Be Known As HULK In A New Ongoing Series From Mariko Tamaki

Jennifer Walters will drop the "She", and take up the mantle of Hulk from her recently deceased cousin this December in the pages of Marvel's new ongoing series from award-winning writer Mariko Tamaki...

Jennifer Walters was taken out of action early on in Civil War II, and remained unaware of the fate that befell her cousin Bruce Banner due to being in a coma. Now she's awake, as is ready to begin piecing her life back together in a new ongoing series from Mariko Tamaki and Nico Leon, which will be titled Hulk.

Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Axel Alonso explains the name-change to The A.V. Club, while also revealing that this is going to be a much darker series than the previous, more comedic solo She-Hulk books.

“The title She-Hulk evokes light-hearted stories about a Jennifer Walters who is at peace with herself and in full control of her powers. This isn’t that book. On the other hand, the title Hulk implies all of the baggage that comes with that comic’s 50+ year history—the ongoing battle with the monster within—and that’s why it’s more appropriate for this series. Jen went through major trauma in Civil War II, and Mariko and Nico’s story will deal with the fallout of that trauma—the anxiety and anger, sometimes self-destructive, that comes along with it. If there is light at the end of the tunnel, Jen is going to have to search hard for it, and she’s going to have to battle with some pretty big monsters—including the one within—to find herself again.”

Hulk is set to hit shelves in December.
