COMICS: Marvel Announces The DEATH OF WOLVERINE!

All the signs pointed to it happening eventually, but now Marvel has officially announced that the incredibly popular mutant berserker will finally meet his maker in a new four-issue weekly series from Charles Soule and Steve McNiven. Check out some promo art after the jump.

Well, we're finally gonna bid farewell to one of Marvel's most popular and enduring characters. This summer's “3 Months to Die” arc teased the possibility of Wolverine's death by permanently stripping him of his healing factor, and this September that will play out as many of us figured it would in Charles Soule and Steve McNiven's Death Of Wolverine. EW has the scoop, and below you can see the cover of the first issue and a lovely black and white promo page. We also have quotes from the creative team.

"For a long time, no matter who Wolverine was battling, he’s been the eternal victor," editor Mike Marts explains to EW. "He almost always comes out on top. Now he finally comes up against an adversary that he cannot win against, he cannot fight. What does that mean for this character who’s been around for hundred years?" Soule adds: "I hope that when people finish it, they’ll feel like he died in a way that was true to him." That sounds pretty definitive! Will this be one comic book death that will stick..at least for a while? We shall see. More at the link below.
