HEROES REBORN: Marvel Releases Trailer & Details For Event That Asks, "What If The Avengers Never Assembled?"

Marvel Comics has finally revealed some new details about Heroes Reborn, and instead of revisiting the last version of that story, it will be a Blade-centric event set in a world without The Avengers...

Marvel Comics released a series of Heroes Reborn teases last week, but we now know that writer Jason Aaron and artist Ed McGuiness are taking charge of the event. The series promises to answer the question of what the Marvel Universe would look like if the Avengers never assembled.

For example, what new super team would step up to fill the void, what deadly threats would emerge unchecked, and what would become of our favourite characters if they never became heroes?

"Welcome to a world where Tony Stark never built an Iron Man armor. Where Thor is a hard-drinking atheist who despises hammers. Where Wakanda is dismissed as a myth. And where Captain America was never found in the ice, because there were no Avengers to find him," reads a synopsis shared by Marvel Comics today. "Instead this world has always been protected by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Squadron Supreme of America."

"And now the Squadron face an attack from some of their fiercest enemies, like Dr. Juggernaut, the Black Skull, the Silver Witch and Thanos with his Infinity Rings. Blade is the one man alive who seems to remember that the entire world has somehow been...reborn," it continues. "And so begins his search for the cause behind this ominous shift in reality."

We're not entirely convinced that the Avengers never assembling would change the Marvel Universe to this extent, but the spotlight being put on Blade in an event like this is definitely exciting.

This sounds a lot like House of M in some ways, and those of you who have been reading Aaron's Avengers run will no doubt want to check it out. It doesn't feel like a massive event, but it seems Marvel Comics has been moving away from those in recent years, so perhaps that's not overly surprising.

A trailer has also been released for Heroes Reborn which you can check out below:

@Armageddon26 - The trailer seems to suggest so.

Oh my God this looks and sounds awful. Has Marvel really reached the bottom of the barrel from which they’re scraping from? Wow.

No! Bad, Marvel! Bad! Shame on you. You are not DC. You are MarFrickingVel. Start acting like it.

Sounds like all that bitching I had to hear for the last several days was much ado about nothing.

So instead of The Avengers the Justice League stand-ins took charge. If the Squadron is nicer in this world, basically being a proper JLA, I don't see how the world is much worse off. I think the most interesting thing here is going to be the tie-ins showing what's going on with the og heroes in this continuity.

Interesting skull on Venom's chest there, I'm guessing he either took over Frank or Peter became The Spider-Punisher, now Venom-Punisher.

@8thDoctor - squadron will probably end up being secretly assholes / doing it for selfish reasons to control people like a PG version of the seven from the boys

So horrible. I'm so tired of event comics. Just run good storylines in the regular series. We don't need another Secret House of Civil Siege crossover event that will change the Marvel Universe more than any other series that has falsely promised the same.

So basically Marvel is publishing DC titles for a bit? Sounds like fun!

The Squadron Supreme of America was actually a good idea from Aaron but this... this looks so dumb. It’s really just House of M and a bunch of random alternate Earths lmao

Marvel and DC have rebooted their comics so many times in these last 10 years my head is spinning

@TheHummus -

Marvel hasn't really rebooted. All the continuity is still pretty much the same. They've retconned sure but not really rebooted.

For every story thread that ever went your way... there was always one that didn't... that is what the "What if" series is all about.
And sometimes people honestly like those better. "What if" is a way to find out what the audience likes and then build upon it.

Disney wouldn't have got $9 billion from just The Avengers movies.
