Here's What NOT To Expect From This Year's Disappointing Looking San Diego Comic-Con

This year's San Diego Comic-Con kicks off later today with Preview Night but with panels set to kick off from tomorrow onwards, here's what you should prepare yourselves not to see during the annual event!

Comic-Con is just days away and as is always the case, excitement for the event is rapidly increasing. Unfortunately, we're going to rain on your parade today because while there is a lot to look forward to, there's also quite a bit we won't get to see in Hall H.

Then again, it's better to be prepared, right?

While Warner Bros. will be putting the spotlight on the DC Films Universe and Sony Pictures is planning to shed at least a little more light on its Spider-Verse, Disney is sitting the event out (along with a number of other major studios) which means that the sneak peeks and reveals you're hoping for probably aren't going to happen!

So, to take a look at what NOT to expect from Comic-Con this year, all you guys have to do is click on the "View List" button below to check out our full breakdown.

The Snyder Cut

There's been a great deal of speculation that Zack Snyder will be at Comic-Con to officially announce a "Snyder Cut" of Justice League but that's just wishful thinking. The director's reps have confirmed that he won't be attending the event and there are a myriad of reasons why this version of the movie being released is unrealistic.

For starters, Warner Bros. spent millions on Joss Whedon's reshoots and still lost money on Justice League. Meanwhile, the meagre amount they would earn from this re-release wouldn't even justify the cost of finishing the effects. Simply put, expect the Snyder Cut to remain on the cutting room floor for the foreseeable future.

The Future Of Star Wars

Ever since Solo bombed at the box office, we've been hearing conflicting reports about the future of those spinoffs and it would be great to get some clarification at Comic-Con. Alas, that's not going to happen as Lucasfilm hasn't scheduled a panel and that means no Episode IX title reveal and definitely no slate reveal of any sort.

A few years ago, Lucasfilm stole the show at Comic-Con with a tear-inducing behind the scenes sizzle reel and a live concert for fans in attendance. Unfortunately, their absence this year may be a combination of bad timing and the fact Disney is going back to the drawing board when it comes to the franchise's future.

Dark Phoenix And The New Mutants

There's no mention of Fox's Marvel movies in the details about the studio's panel and that's a pretty strong indication that both of these releases will be absent. After all, while a surprise reveal of some sort is possible, the promise of a Dark Phoenix trailer would have put bums in seats in Hall H and generally just increased interest and excitement.

Both movies are undergoing extensive reshoots and have been delayed as a result and the Disney/Fox merger has put their future in doubt regardless. I think there's a slim chance we'll get something for Dark Phoenix but I wouldn't bank on it because the signs are all pointing to Fox making the truly stupid decision of not highlighting it in San Diego.

An Official Announcement About The Batman

There have been rumours about an announcement about The Batman at Comic-Con for years now and guess what? It's never freaking happened! Matt Reeves is still working on the screenplay and Ben Affleck's involvement remains a mystery so short of a miracle, there's just no way Warner Bros. will be ready to make it official.

Various reports have pointed to the studio shying away from a slate reveal because they don't want to commit to movies that won't work so beyond that Aquaman trailer and possible sneak peeks at Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984, don't start getting too excited because what you're hoping for probably won't happen.

Avengers 4 Title Reveal

On the one hand, I can't help but wonder if Marvel might at least reveal a piece of concept art for Avengers 4 teasing what's to come in the highly anticipated superhero ensemble. Unfortunately, Kevin Feige has made it clear that Marvel is skipping the event and that we shouldn't expect to see anything from Avengers 4 until the end of the year.

That means no title reveal and while it would certainly be nice to learn more about Avengers 4 at the event, Marvel obviously has another movie coming out before that one and it's far more likely they would choose to focus on that instead of one which is pretty much a guaranteed success after Avengers: Infinity War ended up being a $2 billion hit...

Captain Marvel Trailer

Kevin Feige has said on a number of occasions that the Captain Marvel trailer won't debut for another couple of months so forget about that being buried in the mania this weekend will bring. However, that doesn't mean we won't see anything from Carol Danvers' upcoming big screen debut and there are a couple of exciting possibilities.

Personally, I would be shocked if we don't at least get some concept art of Captain Marvel in action, especially as those pieces shown at last year's Comic-Con have never been officially released. Marvel also has a habit of putting props on the show floor so we may end up seeing her costume or even a replica on one of the Skrulls! Definitely no trailer, though.

Game Of Thrones Season 8

We've already been waiting what feels like forever for details about Game of Thrones' final season but they're not coming this weekend! HBO is sitting out of Comic-Con altogether and that means we'll get nothing at all from the show (not even a vague teaser trailer with some hints about what comes next).

The cable network clearly knows that people will tune in regardless of an expensive Hall H panel and as work continues on the final season, you can understand why they would rather not reveal too much right now. If anything, their absence will only serve to further increase excitement for what feels like an overdue sneak peek.

Disney's Live-Action Offerings

Disney has a lot of very exciting movies in the works outside of the Marvel and Star Wars Universes, including Dumbo, Mary Poppins Returns, Aladdin, and The Lion King. Unfortunately, while fans at D23 and CinemaCon were treated to first looks, that won't be the case in San Diego this weekend.

None of those movies are expected to be promoted and that means we can forget about posters or trailers. Disney is clearly confident promoting them in their own time and as great as it would be to finally see Will Smith's Genie or the live-action Simba, it appears as if we're going to have to continue being patient for now.

Meet The Green Lantern Corps

Last month, it was revealed that Geoff John's was hard at work on writing the script for Green Lantern Corps and, as expected, that will revolve around Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Understandably, a lot of fans are salivating at the prospect of the actors who will play these two being brought out on stage during the Warner Bros. panel on Saturday.

Unfortunately, there's simply no way that they've been cast at this stage despite the fact that casting rumours about both characters have been swirling for years now. It's simply too early and while the movie has been confirmed as happening, we likely have at least a couple of years to wait before the script is finished, a director is found, and the casting process begins.

News On Marvel's Phase 4 Slate

With no Marvel Studios pan in Hall H, that means no Phase 4 slate reveal. Then again, that really shouldn't come as a surprise because Kevin Feige has already said their future plans won't be made clear until after the release of Avengers 4. This is obviously disappointing but it shouldn't come as a huge surprise.

It's far more likely that the studio will unveil its slate at D23 next year or at another Marvel Event because that means there won't be any distractions and they can have the spotlight solely on their own endeavours rather than having to compete with rival studios. This also means the majority of MCU actors will be giving Comic-Con a miss this year, unfortunately.

Good rest for all. 3) Sad, wish to hear and see more of those. 4) Dammit. 5) Another Dammit! 6) Probably THE comic book movie I literally have no genuine interest in. So this is nothing to me. 7) Don't watch this show, but sad for fans. 8) People are actually hyped for these? The Jungle Book and Tarzan were "Okay-ish", but they failed to capture the magic of the cartoon originals. So, my positivity towards those is pretty low. 9) Dammit! 10) Another Dammit.
