DEADPOOL 2 Rockets To A $125 Million+ Domestic Opening Weekend; Record-Breaking $301 Million Worldwide

After three weeks on top, Avengers: Infinity War is no longer the box office king as the Marvel blockbuster has been toppled by another Marvel blockbuster in Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool 2.

20th Century Fox's Deadpool 2 has gotten off to a strong start domestically, bringing in over $125 million in its first frame in the United States, which is the second-biggest opening weekend ever for an R-rated film behind only Deadpool's $132.4 million opening weekend back in 2016, although it should be noted that the original was boosted by the combination of a Valentine's Day and Presidents Day holiday weekend. It also now holds the record for the biggest opening weekend ever for an R-rated comedy sequel.

Internationally, Deadpool 2 has earned over $176.3 million and is now Fox's biggest international opener of all-time, topping X-Men: Days of Future Past ($174M), and is also the biggest R-rated foreign opener of all-time overall, topping Logan ($160M). Worldwide, the film has already collected well over $301 million - without China, which is incredibly impressive on its relatively modest $110 million production budget.

After a three-week run at the top of the world, Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War has fallen to the #2 spot with $28.7 million, bringing its total domestic haul to $595 million, which is currently the eighth-best total ever. Internationally, the Russo Brothers-directed blockbuster has collected over $1.218 billion, including a jaw-dropping 302.5 million from China alone. Overall, the Marvel juggernaut has taken in over $1.814 billion worldwide, making it the fourth-highest grossing film of all-time.

Paramount's A Quiet Place continues to impress with $4 million in its seventh week and opened to $17.7 million in China over the past weekend. With over $296.4 million worldwide ($176.2M domestic, $120.3M foreign), the John Krasinski-directed horror feature has now surpassed the domestic and worldwide totals of Jordan Peele's Get Out.

Meanwhile, Marvel's Black Panther, which arrived on Blu-ray last week, has finally bowed out of the Top 10 after a spectacular fourteen-week run. Its worldwide cume stands at $1.3 billion ($697.7M domestic; $645.8M foreign).
