DEADPOOL As A Dad? All The New Details About The Sequel From Entertainment Weekly's Latest Issue

While Avengers: Infinity War is currently breaking box office records, it will soon have some competition in the form of Deadpool 2. The first movie broke many records of its own and early tracking data is pointing to the follow-up also being a hit. It's certainly going to be a lot bigger anyway as the likes of Cable, Domino, and X-Force are being thrown into the mix in this very secretive sequel.

In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, the Merc with the Mouth's sequel gets the spotlight and we've combed through that to bring you all the biggest and best reveals from the magazine's feature.

From plans to make Deadpool a dad in the sequel to X-Force's roster, changes to the titular hero's costume, and cut jokes about Disney, we have everything you need to know about Deadpool 2 right here. We Have The Proposal To Thank For Cable

Josh Brolin has talked a lot about what led to him deciding to take on the role of Cable in Deadpool 2 but it appears as if Ryan Reynolds actually has The Proposal to thank for securing such an awesome actor for the role. For those of you who don't know, he starred in that alongside Sandra Bullock.

"I was a secret fan of The Proposal, having watched it several times by myself, "I told Ryan. I was like, ‘I don’t know why this is, and I don’t know what this means psychologically, behaviorally, emotionally, but I have kind of a crush on you.’" For what it's worth, though, Reynolds isn't buying it.

"He’s mentioned it many times, which is weird to me because he’s so tough. I would just never imagine that. Like, he pretends he’s, like, all sort of New Agey sometimes and all this stuff, but deep down inside I just think his heart is made of some, like, jagged chunk of Yosemite granite. I don’t buy that underneath all this textured skin is a sweet little angel that loves romantic comedies. I don’t buy it. Not for a second." Do you think Brolin's love of The Proposal is legit? I think it actually might be!

How Josh Brolin Transformed Into Cable

Josh Brolin may not look like he's 50 but physically transforming your body at that age is no easy task and the Avengers: Infinity War star had only eleven weeks to prepare for the role of the imposing mutant. "What I should have done was just f—ing blow myself up with steroids and then just eat ice cream and watch TV," he jokes. "That’s kind of what I wish I would have done. But I didn’t."

"I had this great midlife-crisis idea. Buy a Ferrari? No, I’ll get into shape. And it was just a dumb decision. I worked out three hours a day, and I was off sugar. I’m very happy with the outcome."

Deadpool Was A Dad In An Early Draft

Can you imagine Wade Wilson as a father? Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick did but quickly decided it wasn't the right decision. "The genesis of it was ‘What if Deadpool had a child?'" he explains. "Like, what if we started five years later and what would that be like? By page 1.5, it was totally untenable. We were just like, ‘Nope. Nope. No, no, no. This is never, ever going to work.'"

"We went back to the drawing board and kind of reworked it in a way about wanting to have a child, which is something that so many people I know experience on a daily basis — wanting to have a child but can’t." Based on those remarks, it appears as if Deadpool and Vanessa will be unable to start a family in the sequel, something which is bound to have an impact on their relationship.

Ryan Reynolds Isn't Sure What The Disney/Fox Merger Means

For Deadpool, that is! The deal is still in its infancy and while it's believed that it will be completed by next summer, there's a very good chance it might not happen so no one can be quite sure if and when characters like Deadpool and the X-Men will wind up becoming part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"I really genuinely don’t know a thing about it," Reynolds confirms. "I read that [chairman and CEO] Bob Iger felt that there’s plenty of room in that universe to have a rated-R character like Deadpool. This is completely conjecture on my part, but I wouldn’t imagine that Disney bought Fox to dismantle it or something like that. I think that Disney bought Fox so it could have that in its arsenal."

Ryan Reynolds Is Still Hoping For A Deadpool/Wolverine Teamup

After making it clear that Wolverine is very much alive and well in his timeline, Ryan Reynolds went on to reveal that he's still holding out hope for ateamup between the two characters...even if it is unlikely to ever happen! "I think convincing Hugh of that would be a near-impossible feat, but there’s no human being I love more than Hugh Jackman in that universe, and equally so as a friend."

"He’s just the best," he adds. "I already miss him as Logan, so I’m one of those guys that whenever I see him, I’m like, ‘Come on, man. Just one more. Come on. We’ll do it together. It’ll be fun. Come on! On three. Here we go, together. One, two, three, together,’ and it’s always just me saying it."

There's A Recurring Joke In The Movie About Frozen

While jokes about Frozen - Disney's wildly successful and ridiculously popular animated musical - may seem a little outdated at this stage, Entertainment Weekly confirms that there's a recurring joke in Deadpool 2 about that and if anyone came make it relevant, it's got to be the Merc with the Mouth.

X-Force Will Include Cable And Domino

The magazine confirms that Drew Goddard is still attached to write and direct X-Force and that Deadpool will be taking centre stage in that. Producer Simon Kinberg, meanwhile, reveals that while they still haven't chosen which characters are going to join him in that, there are at least two members.

"Drew, Ryan, and I sat down and talked quite a bit about what X-Force would be, but we haven’t on settled who those characters are yet. But certainly we’d want Cable and Domino to be part of it."

Don't Expect Big Changes To Be Made To Deadpool's Suit

It's common for superheroes to get different costumes from movie to movie and that usually has something to do with merchandise. Marvel don't make toys or t-shirts for Fox's movies, though, so don't expect the Merc with the Mouth to receive a significant upgrade. "It was like a soft system update," admits Reynolds. "You know, when it’s like your phone gives you an update, but it’s only like [the] font or something. It’s not going to give you some awesome thing. It was kind of that."

"My shin guards are shinier," he jokes. "I mean f—, who cares. Nothing that allowed me to find my penis within 20 minutes when I had to pee. No, nothing like that. God forbid we should just put a normal f—ing zipper in it." So, there you have it, there won't be any major changes in the sequel.

Josh Brolin Is Planning To Get Jacked For X-Force

While there's no guarantee the movie will happen (if the cameras start rolling this summer, it could secure a 2019 release), Brolin is already thinking ahead to X-Force and plans on changing up his training regime to deliver a whole new Cable. "I think I want to do something a little different in the next movie," the actor teases. "I think I want to get a little bigger and see what that’s like."

Fox Forced Ryan Reynolds To Cut A Disney Joke

Like the first movie, Deadpool 2 will be R-Rated but it appears as if even that couldn't save Ryan Reynolds from Fox's wrath when he put a joke in the sequel about Disney (what that was hasn't been revealed but it must have really pushed the boundaries if the studio balked at the idea of including it).

"This is a sore spot for me because there’s a joke in the movie that is not in the movie now because — I’m probably not even allowed to say this — Fox made me take it out," the actor confirmed during an interview with the magazine. "It had more to do with Disney, and they made me take it out. As I look back at it, I think maybe that was a wise decision." Here's hoping it's revealed one day!

Deadpool 3 May Not Ever Happen

Ryan Reynolds has made it clear in an interview with EW that while he's anxious to see the Merc with the Mouth in X-Force, he doesn't know where exactly the character could go in Deadpool 3.

"I don’t know that there would be a Deadpool 3. I really don’t,” says Reynolds. “I feel like the character, in order for him to function properly within his own universe, you need to take everything away from him. I don’t think that you can keep doing that. I do see him as being a part of X-Force, obviously. I would love to see him in a team-up sort of thing, like a mano a mano or a great female character from the X-Men universe. I just think if you’re going to do another Deadpool solo film, you’ve got to really, like, get that budget down to nothing and just swing for the fences, and break all kinds of weird barriers, and do stuff that no one else can do."

So, if Deadpool 3 does happen, Reynolds clearly wants to go back to basics. The second chapter looks considerably bigger than the first instalment and throws in so many new characters, it might as well be an X-Men movie! Then again, it is having to set the stage for Drew Goddard's X-Force and the actor is confident that when the Merc does return to solo action, it can easily be a more personal tale.

"Why do they all have to be big comic book movies?" he asks. "It could be anything. Deadpool could be a Sundance film." Well, that would certainly take the Sundance jury by surprise, don't you think?

Ryan Reynolds Never Watched Green Lantern

"Look, I’ve never seen the full final version of Green Lantern," Reynolds admitted in a chat with EW. "I saw a very late stage rough cut of the film." Surprisingly, the actor doesn't actually have a definitive reason for not watching. Instead, he had a more diplomatic answer. "Now, that isn't to say that I didn't want to see it because I didn’t like it. I have movies that have been received pretty well that I haven't seen, and then I have movies that I have seen 100 times that people don’t like but I just like."

The Sequel Isn't What You're Expecting

Asked what we should expect from the sequel, Ryan Reynolds says: "The first movie is a love story masquerading as a comic book movie, and this one is kind of a family film masquerading as a comic book film again." As a result, it's fair to say this movie will take us to some unexpected places.
