Following the trailer reveal earlier today, Disney has released the first batch of official stills from Cruella. These nicely showcase the movie's costumes and unique style, with Emma Stone and an unrecognisable Emma Thompson front and centre. Whether we watch it in theaters or on Disney+, "Disney's Joker," as it's become known on Twitter, could be one of 2021's most enjoyable releases.

Cruella follows the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious, and notoriously fashionable, villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. Set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, the movie focuses on a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets.

One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson. But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.

Cruella is directed by Craig Gillespie (I Tonya) and produced by Andrew Gunn (Freaky Friday), Marc Platt (Mary Poppins Returns), and Kristin Burr (Christopher Robin), with Emma Stone and Michelle Wright (Baby Driver) serving as executive producers. Two-time Oscar-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan (Mad Max: Fury Road) creates the movie's colourful, unique costumes.

The movie will be released on May 28th, and you can check out these new stills in the Tweet below:

You can always count on Disney to scrape the bottom of the barrel and self plagiarize. I can't wait for that Mr. Snoops prequel. 😑

@Feralwookiee - Obviously Mr. Snoops would be a side character in a Madame Medusa film. Come on now.

If it doesn't carry an R rating and she doesn't skin a puppy on live TV, then don't compare it to the Joker

Emma Stone is talented and I'm sure she'll elevate the material given to her. It looks like it will lean more into the villain territory rather than taking an antihero approach. I just don't know how you can humanize the psychopath who wanted to slaughter puppies.

@tmp3 - but if you put Emma Stone in gaudy outfits and have her strut with "yas honey" energy that's a hit lol

I thought my life was a tragedy. Then I realized it was a fashion statement.

Craig Gillespie is a great [frick]ing director tho. This might actually be good. But [frick], it's Disney.

@WakandanQueen - Gillespie will get a fat pay cheque for this and then go back to off-beat indie films
