The big Marvel Studios and Star Wars reveals are coming a little later today, but Disney's Investor Day just kicked off with the blockbuster announcement.

While specifics weren't shared, it's been confirmed that 10 new Marvel Studios TV series are on the way to Disney+. Those will be joined by 10 Star Wars TV series, not to mentioned 15 new animated TV series and 15 new animated features. A number of upcoming Disney live-action and animated movies (including those from Pixar) are also planned for Disney+ debuts.

It's also been confirmed that Maya And The Last Dragon is being released day-and-date on Disney+'s Premier Access on March 12th, 2021. It will play in theaters as planned, but you'll also have the option of watching from home for $29.99.

Needless to say, a Disney+ subscription now looks set to be more essential than ever before, and we're now keeping everything crossed that those 20 TV shows are officially announced tonight.

They haven’t shown any footage or announced any series yet. Been a lot of logistics and blah blah stuff they’ve been talking about.

@PantherKing - is it expected that they will announce these shows today? Are you listening in to a call or something, or just checking twitter?

@HeavyMetal4Life - I’m watching the livestream. They’re supposed to show/talk about Wanda vision, falcon and the winter soldier and Loki along with some Star Wars stuff.

Looks like Star Wars and Marvel films are going to continue as their marquee theatrical releases.

@Vanillain - and 20th Century Studios movies I guess too, since that isn't mentioned in the tweet either

OT: They're going pretty all-in on "Premiere Access" :/

Also, if Raya is indeed going to be PVOD, then they did learn something from Mulan. Whatever the numbers were - either success or failure - this is an experiment they're willing to continue until they hit that soft spot of content and cost.

@Vanillain - curious what they’re going to charge. Because if it’s 30$ that’s still too much.

@Vanillain - @TMP3 - There is one major difference in the Raya release as opposed to Mulan. The latter wasn't released to stateside theaters and Raya will be. Given that we are talking March and restricted capacities still in place this is an interesting experiment that likely won't be repeatable as the vaccine gets more distribution.

Imo the $30 price tag and Disney+ pre-req won't take away all that many potential theater admissions but it will make them little money that they otherwise wouldn't get and allow them to break-even on this movie.

Well, Raya isn't Marvel, so its free to be shat on i guess

@DannRamm113 - This is an even dumber idea than the Max thing lol

@tmp3 - you see, with Mulan it was at least people didn't know they'd be screwed over by them releasing it to other platforms cheaper with more content/BTS features. So they are literally just doing the same thing and hoping people will fall for it again

I’ll wait for most of these movies to hit home media

So I'm guessing they're gonna do four shows of each IP every year. That means 8 shows year round. That does sound pretty sweet, but I do wanna hear some titles

10 Marvel show is more than ok but somehow 10 SW shows seem...Dunno, we have just The Mandalorian and then BANG 10 other??

I know we'll get that prequel of a prequel no one asked for and maybe Ahsoka and Boba Fett which is nice. :3
Obi Wan? Hello there!
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 12/10/2020, 2:07 PM
@Doomsday8888 - I think Star Wars will also include season 2s, 3s, etc. Either way, looks like we're still gonna get 2 new (Disney/Star Wars/Marvel) shows every month
MrDandy
MrDandy - 12/10/2020, 2:08 PM
@Doomsday8888 - Well we have three technically in the works. Mandalorian, Obi-Wan, and The Bad Batch.

I’m okay with it if stuff like Obi Wan is more like a standalone miniseries
